Cookbook (Continued from page 10) Immud by a doctor how uttd by million! womtn Sausage Patty Barbecue en Buns For a real swingin' party for the teen age set, serve plenty of vegetable nib biers with these buns, then bring on the doughnuts and Witch-Draught. 2 lb, balk pork RauHajre Barbecue Butter (see recipe) 12 hamburger buns, split 1 1-lb. can bean sprouts, drained and rinsed with cold water 1. Shape sausage into 12 thin patties. Put into skillet with about 2 table spoons water. Cover and simmer 5 min. Drain off drippings. Brown pat ties on both sides over medium heat. 2. Spread bun halves with Barbecue Butter (about 1 tablespoonful for each). Place bottom half of each bun on a 12x8-in. piece of aluminum foil. Place a sausage patty and a gener ous spoonful of bean sprouts on each. Cover with top half of bun. Wrap securely, using drugstore fold, and place on baking sheet. 3. Heat at 400 F about 10 min. It sandwiches Barbecue Butter 1 cup butter or margarine, softened 1 clove garlic, crushed in a garlic press, or minced 1 tablespoon brown sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon dry mustard 1 teaspoon paprika 'J cup chopped onion 2 tablespoons lemon juice 2 tablespoons cider vinegar 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon catsup 3 drops Tabasco Beat together the butter or marga rine, garlic, and a mixture of next four ingredients until thoroughly blended, then gradually beat in re maining ingredients. Witch-Draught with Orange Floats 3 medium-siied oranges Whole cloves 2 qts. sweet apple cider ' 2 cups water 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1 cup orange juice S tablespoons lemon juice Vi teaspoon ground nutmeg 2 3-in. cinnamon sticks 1. Stud oranges with whole cloves, in serting them about 1 in. apart. Place in shallow baking dish and bake at 325 F about 1 hr., or until juice be gins to form. Remove from oven; prick peel thoroughly with a fork. 2. Mix remaining ingredients together in a saucepan. Set over medium heat and stir until sugar is dissolved. Bring to boiling, add oranges, and simmer IS min. 3. Transfer oranges to heat-resistant punch bowl; strain punch through fine sieve into the bowl. Serve hot. About t qts. punch family Wnkly. Serve with your favor ite "bewitching" beverage. 2 cups dark seedless raisins l'j cups water 4Vi cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt Wt cups butter or margarine 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Vi teaspoon ground nutmeg teaspoon ground allspice 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 cups sugar 3 eggs 1 cup chopped walnuts Creamy Orange Frosting (see rec ipe) 1. Combine raisins and water in saucepan. Bring to boiling and sim mer 5 min. Drain, reserving cup liquid. Set raisins and liquid aside. 2. Blend flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside. 3. Cream butter or margarine, spices, and vanilla extract together. Add su gar gradually, creaming until fluffy. 4. Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition. 5. Alternately add dry ingredients in fourths and raisin liquid in thirds, mixing until blended after each addi tion. Mix in raisins and nuts. 6. Drop by heaping tablespoonfuls about 2 in. apart onto lightly greased cookie sheets. 7. Bake at 400F about 10 min., or until top springs back when touched lightly at center. Remove to cooling racks. When cool, frost with Creamy Orange Frosting. Decorate to rer semble jack-o'-lantern faces. With a wooden pick or fine brush dipped in melted chocolate, draw lines to indi cate grooves in pumpkin and to make the face. Use a piece of citron or angelica for stem. About i dot. cookies 'For the sophisticated taste, use black walnuts. Creamy Orange Frosting lt cup butter or margarine Wi teaspoons vanilla extract Vi teaspoon salt 1 lb. (about 3Vi cups) confectioners' sugar, sifted KK yolk 2 to 3 tablespoons orange Juice Red and yellow food coloring 1. Cream first three ingredients. 2. Gradually add sugar, creaming un til blended after each addition. Add egg yolk and beat until smooth. 3. Add orange juice gradually, beat ing until frosting is of desired con sistency. Blend in food coloring, one drop at a time (approximately 3 drops of red and 6 drops of yellow), until frosting is tinted a light orange.
