O'Donnell disclosed today he will try to have fight-manager Bobby Gleason of New York appear later this week before a Baltimore grand jury investi gating the ring-death of boxer Ernie Knox. The grand jury has ordered O'Donnell to summon Gleason as soon as possible. Gleason manages New York heavyweight Wayne Bcthca, who knocked out Baltimore's Ernie Knox in the ninth round at the Baltimore Coliseum, Oct. 14. Knox died 31 hours later from a blood clot on the brain. When an autopsy disclosed that Knox' body weighed 23 pounds less than the 178 he al legedly scaled at the weigh-in before the fight, the grand jury started its investigation of whether a mismatch between a 153-pound middleweight and 203 pound Bethea caused Knox' death. New Yorker Gleason already has told New York sports writ ers about the strange Baltimore weigh-in at which both fighters stepped on the scales halt clothed instead of snipped. Hockey Win. Body Punches Bring Balder Bobo Verdict SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) Maybe he's a little balder and a little slower than when king of the middleweights 10 years ago, but Carl (Bono) Olson still can wreck you with those body punches. Young Jose Menno of Argen tina got the message right in the mid-section Monday night as Olson worked him over for a unanimous 10-round decision. Olson, who said today that he Friday, Oct. 25, is the day to mark on the calendar for all women of Hcames Golf and Couniry Club. This will be a fun day, so come in costume, play goofy golf, enjoy the social hour and buffet, and watch the playhouse golfers. Four holes of golf in costume is scheduled for 11 o'clock (weather permitting), social hour at 12, followed by special entertainment and a buffet luncheon. Be sure to turn out for this gala event and don't for get to bring white elephants. Judges will award prizes (or the best costumes. The game statistics indicate the 6-6 score was a fair indica tion of the might and shortcom ings of both the Tigers and Bulldogs. Dunsmuir had 11 first downs tn Fall River's nine. The Undefeated Teams Fall llv United Press International The college football season took a heavy toll o( hopefuls today, with only 35 survivors listed as unbeaten and untied at the halfway mark. Texas led a meager helping of seven major powers that also included Princeton, Dartmouth, Auburn, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh and Bowling Green of Ohio. Eight schools won six games, 14 more captured live each, 11 others sported lour victories apiece and two teams were un scathed in three games. St. John's I Minn. I piled up Ihe most points among the perfect squads, 228 in six games. Princeton yielded six points in four games, while John Carroll and Florida A&M were just as stingy in three conlots. had earned a shot at Willie Pastrano's world light - heavy weight title, weighed 176 pounds to 175 for Menno. Bubo's $3,580 share of the $13,588 gate was tied up after the bout by tax agents. "I'm ready to fight Pastrano in this city now for Ihe light heavyweight championship," Ol son said afterwards in the dressing room. "The fight should bring in a gate of $100, 000." Olson bad Mcnno's nose bleeding from the second round on and constantly distressed him with left hooks to the body. In the eighth a right-left-right combination to the head made the South American sit down on the middle strand of the ropes. But he struggled back and kept on trying to get in a good punch. It was a landslide for Olson, who was fighting his 100th pro fessional bout. Referee Frankie Carter scored the fight 7-2 in Bobo's favor, while judge Tony Bosnian saw it 6-1 and judge Bob Mitchell 7-0. Olson went to work on Men no's body in the second round, scoring with busy shots while using his elbows to bolck the Argentine's counter punches. Menno, who had sought to box from long range, was a pic ture of bewilderment in the fifth round when Olson worked him over inside, then jarred him with a right chop to the head. Another left hook to the body scored more points for Bobo in the seventh and set the Argentine for his near knock down during the eighth. Tigers lost 50 yards in penal ties and the Bulldogs lost 60. Dunsmuir's four fumbles were all recovered by Fall H i v e r. The Bulldogs bobbled the pig skin five times but recovered one of their own fumbles. Hubert Morphew, Bulldog quarterback, tossed a screen pass to Steve McClung on the first play from scrimmage as the game began and McClung ran 54 yards for the touchdown. The play started on the Fall River 39-yard line. The kick try was no good. Don Bcnkosky, Dunsmuir half back, intercepted a Fall River pass on the Dunsmuir 37 yard line just as the first quarter ended. This set up Dunsmuir's touchdown five plays into the second quarter when fullback Ed Flowers plunged through from the five. Fall River intercepted a Duns muir pass just seconds before Ihe final whistle. The Bulldogs also threatened in the second quarter but were held twice on tlic two-yard line and thrown for a 14-yard loss on the fourth down play. Next Friday's game is a cru cial one for Dunsmuir. The Ti gers must defeat Mount Shasta in order to win the Shasta Cas cade League title and it will also lie their lirst game of the Siskiyou County league. The jayvec game at McAr thur was also a lie. 1!M!).
