Mr. Brown points out that a good defensive player should be alert to take advantage of any mistakes declarer might make. East won the opening heart lead with the queen and contin ued the suit in order to force dummy. South ruffed In dummy and led a diamond to his queen. West took his king and returned the ten spot which South won with his ace. At this point South should save attacked trumps, whereupon noth ing bad would happen to him, but South decided to ruff a third heart in dummy. Then he played the ace and ten of trumps. East was ready for this play. He went right up with the king and threw South back in dummy with the jack of diamonds. South had to Jead clubs from dummy and East was able to ruff the third club and set the contract. Of course, East would have looked mighty silly If his play of! the king had dropped an honor; from his partner's hand. And, of course, declarer had umpteen; ways to make the hand. Instead he found the one way to go down and East had risen to the occa sion. Learn the Jacoby system with your copy of "Win at Bridge With Oswald Jacoby. Answer Tomorrow Release Of Priest Gained After Eight Years Effort WASHINGTON UPI Thel return from Russia of the Rev. Walter Ciszek, a 58-year-old Ro- man Catholic priest from Shenan doah, Pa., Saturday climaxed State Department efforts in his behalf that spanned two adminis trations and more than eight years. Father Ciszek and another American prisoner of the Rus sians, Marvin Makincn, 24, a stu dent from Ashburnham, Mass., were exchanged for two accused Soviet spies Friday. Makinen had been imprisoned in the Soviet Un ion on spy charges since the sum mer of 11981, but the priest was believed to have been a prisoner of the Russians since about 1940. According to his sister, Mrs. Helen C. Gearhart of Washington, Father Ciszck's family had not seen or heard from him since the outbreak of World War II in 0939, except for a brief message in 1935. Father Ciszek was born in Shenandoah on Nov. 4, 1904. A member of the Jesuit order, he went to -Rome in 1934 after attending the order's seminary at Woodstock, Md. He was ordained at the Vatican in 11937 and a year later was assigned to a Jesuit seminary in Poland, near we Russian frontier. Mrs. Gerahart said that in 1940 the family was told by one of the Priests superiors that "the Bolsheviks" had taken him, ap parently when the Rusaans in vaded Poland during the period of the short-lived Nazi-Soviet non- aggression pact. She said he was believed dead until -1955 when one of his sisters. a nun iri Reading, Pa., received a cryptic note, apparently smug gled out of Siberia where he was imprisoned on spy charges. The note said: "You may have forgotten me or you may have taken me for dead. I am alive, NAMED MANAGER WASHINGTON (UPI) Dr. Joseph F.
