The result is the Vikings are one of the favorites for the OCC title this year. An opening league lacing of Eastern Oregon by a 38-0 count is testimony. Oregon Tech has a new outlook also under the guidance of former Oregon standout Pheister. No longer are the Owl teams out for a bit of physical exercise on the football field. Now the school has taken on a new look in regards to winning or losing Losses are no longer tolerated on the Mile-High Campus with a shrug. In the PSC-OTI series, which dates back to 1948 when the teams opened with a scoreless tie, the Owls have won seven games, the Viks five and two contests have ended in ties. 1 But since the arrival of one Billy "Bye-Bye" White on the Portland State scene from Roseburg, the Owls have been downed in two straight. In I960, when White was a fresh man, the Owls collected their last victory in the series by a score of 19-14. The Vikings came back in 1961 Lo stop the Owls 13-7 and last year the Portland State eleven col lected a 23-0 verdict. The Owls have stressed defense this week in an effort to contain the inside-outs ido threat of full back Andy Berkis and halfback White. Friday, Octobr 11, 1963 Owl Outlook CONFERENCE OPENER NEXT Ken Lenhardt, Oregon Tech's fop sophomore guard from Tigard, will be throwing his 200 pounds against the Portland State Vikings at Modoc Field Saturday night as the Owls open conference action. Oregon Tech takes a 1-2 non-counting record into the clash opposing the 2-1 mark of the Viks. Oregon Tech club pull out a 34-20 victory. This was in contrast to the opening games of the year when the offense stuttered while tne ae. fense held its own. This week the Owls have keyed their workouts to improvement in both departments in seeking a bal ance of the two and thereby open ing OCC action with a win. If the Owls come through, the win will be considered an upset, with the Vikings boasting an ex perienced club as opposed to the Owls' units composed, for the most part, of fledglings.
