BOB ORAGOO has been in San Diego with her daughter and son-in-law, who have a new daughter. The baby is the first grandchild of Mr. and Mrs. Dra goo. THETA RHO GIRLS CLUB had a slumber party on Sept. 13 at the IOOF Hall. Seventeen mem bers and two chapcrones. Marge Burleigh and Vivian Cunningham, attended and enjoyed a potluck breakfast. SUMMER LAKE MR. AND MRS. JESS PEN INGTON moved their daughter. Linda, to Corvallis on the week end of Sept. 21-22. They stayed overnight Saturday at the beach. leaving Linda at Hawley Hall on Sunday for her freshman year at Oregon Stale University. Better Grades 7 MR. AND MRS. JAMES FOS TER and family 'stayed overnight Sept. 21 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R. McClellan, at their new home in Salem. Sun day afternoon they attended a re ception in Aumsville for a cousin who was recently married, then went on to Corvallis to leave their oldest daughter, Terry Ann, at Oregon State University where she is enrolled as a freshman. ROY CARLON was thrown from a horse while assisting the Brattains with branding at the XL Ranch and, was hospitalized overnight at Lakeview. GUY FOSTER was hospitalized for a few days at St. Charles Me morial Hospital, Bend, for a virus infection. MR. AND SIRS. D. T. O'CON NOR had as visitors, the Jerry O'Lcarys of Paisley and Mr. and Mrs. Tim Mahoney and family of Lakeview. MB. AND MRS. ALFRED PE TERSON and Mr. and Mrs. A. A Smith of Eugene were weekend guests of the Bud Curriers while here for deer hunting. Another guest is Mrs. Currier's sister Mary Price of Noti, who is here tor a week. MR. AND MRS. BUD PER NOLL were hosts to Dr. and Mrs. M. L. Pemoll, Dr. Curtis Hill, and Alta Lee Pernoll. all of Portland, for a weekend of deer hunting. THE JAMES FOSTERS had as guests Sept. 29, an aunt and un cle, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Martin of Salem and cousins,' Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Goff, Forest Grove. MR. AND MRS. FRANK OTT III left Fremont Point Lookout Sept. 22 for Oregon State Univer sity. Oil is a senior this year. MR. AND MRS. JIM ELDER made a trip to Fallon, Nov., re cently to settle her brother's es tate. SIR. AND' MRS. LESTER ET TINGER of Medford are visiting her sister, Agnes Elder, and fam ily during the hunting season. SIRS. ROBERT ELDER and sons visited the Harvey Wolfe family at Burney, Calif.; Sept. 10-12. Study Schedule Helps Budget Proper Time For Each Course By The Reading Laboratory Written for 'Newspaper Enterprise Association We've talked about your study environment: quiet room, straight chair, good light, your book, rest ing on the desk at a 4S-degree ancle about 14 inches from vour eyes, perhaps a slight, regular, background noise, and your mind free to concentrate on your stud ies. Now it s time to work out a study schedule, so you ca"n be sure of spending the right amount of time on each course. As soon as you begin to get the feel of your courses, and get a pretty good idea of what your teachers expect of you, you should rate your courses according to difficulty and importance. Take everything into consideration. Even though all of your courses are Important they're all not of the same importance: college ad mission offices pay the greatest attention to English and science marks. So if you have trouble with English, that might be the most important course for you. Figure out how much reading is expected in each course, and how much written work. How tough a teacher do you have? How much trouble do you expeel with the course? How much trouble have you had with similar courses in past years? Then get a sheet of white pap er tnd draw columns for each day of the week. You're going lo make a general plan for each day to tape to your desk at home. Would you rather study in the afternoons and keep your eve nings free or vice-versa? Do you expect to be tied up with athletic practice or special projects after school? What television programs cannot be missed? Will your school be scheduling a lot of night basketball games? Try not to spend much more than three hours a day studying More than that is usually un productive; you can't concentrate any longer. If you're taking five courses, that will be an average three hours per week per course But one course may require five hours and another only one hour. You've already rated your courses. so begin to work them into your schedule. Allow yourself at least 7 to 8 hours . sleep a night, although 9 or 10 hours isn't too much for hieh school students. If you're thinking of a part-time job, be sure to work it into vour scheH. ule. Part-time jobs are good but don t bite off more than you can chew. Keep your weekends rela Itivelv free for leisure: vnu minht reserve cither Friday or Sunday night or studying, but not both. So make out a Good, realistic schedule, taking everything into account, allowing plenty of time bolh for school and recreation, post the schedflle on your desk, or wall, and then stick to it Special events will come ug special basketball games a spe cial movie and you'll break the schedule: you're human. But if you stick lo the schedule most of the time and get into the habit of regular day-to-day study ing, you can save yourself a lot of anxiety and sleepless nights when exams come up.
