Activities of the district will be weighed against the perfor mance of other districts in the state to determining the one out standine. The event is spon sored by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company of Akron, omo. Key agricultural leaders will serve as judges and select the state winner. Soil conservation ef forts from May 1, 1963, through Dec. 31. 1963, will be considered. Grand award for the 52 dis tricts selected nationally will be an expense paid work-study trip to Arizona in December, 1964, for one member of the district gov erning body and the outstand ing farmer - cooperator in each winning district. The 104 men sel ected will be guests at Goodyear ENJOY THE WORLD SERIES At MOLATORE'S RESTAURANT & LOUNGE 100 Main St. Farms, a 14,000-acre general farm operation near Phoenix. Langell Valley Soil Conserva tion District has taken part in the competition many times and was named the state s first place district m 1962. District supervisors are Lloyd Gift, Louis Randall, Peter Hric ziscse, Harold Williams, Tony Quadros, Walter Smith Jr., and Frank Obenchain. Gift said the district's outstanding cooperator will be selected from the 180 farm operators enrolled in the district program. Nationally, about 1,800,-' 000 farmers in the 2,900 districts will be eligible for the grand trip award. Youth Killed ESTACADA (UPI) - Gregory Maplethorpe, 16, Estacada, was killed when his car collided with a logging truck on State Highway 211 near here Monday. State police said his car went out of control on a sweeping curve coming onto the Clear Creek bridge on the highway. Rob ert Ritchie, 21, Molalla, was driv ing the truck, police said. DUNSMUIR - Educational needs at the Siskiyou County Juvenile Hall were discussed in formally by Paul Fischer, coun ty superintendent of schools, at the meeting of the 25th district, California Congress of Parents and Teachers, in Montague last week. Lack of schooling opportunities at the juvenile hall serves to substantiate the feeling of inmates that society does not care, t isch- er said. He pointed out that state financial support is now avail able if the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors initiates action and oelcgates jurisdiction for estab lishment of a school situation at the juvenile hall. The report of the district ju venile protection committee ad vocating such a school and other measures was adopted by district delegates and will be recommend ed to local PTA units for further action. Mrs. C. L. Gu.slafson, Weed, parent education chairman, re ported on the recent parent edu cation course in San Francisco where she attended sessions on film previews, the adolescent, home discipline, and parent en lightenment through group discus sion. A motion was passed condemn ing specific cigarette company advertising aimed at encouraging young smokers. This motion will be presented for further action at the next state board meeting by Mrs. Lloyd Wcstby, Happy Camp district president. Jerry Edwards, dean of stu dents, College of the Siskiyous, made a plea for small scholar ship assistance for students. Ed wards said $50 to $75 scholar ships awarded by PTA units could enable some students to continue college training. There were 46 delegates pres ent, 18 district officers and unit presidents. Luncheon was served by the Montague -PTA.
