When I come home trom such a trip, I always take my "Eirls" out to dinner. My wife bears with me admirably but my three teen-age daughters think nicotine stained fingers are dis graceful. Before I take them out, this Is Uie way I remove those stains. Mix one tablespoon of bak ing soda with enough bottled lemon juice to make a thick paste, hub Into the stains and then scrub vith a brush. Wash ;the greens well, shake out as 'riuch water as possible and place Itfiem in heaps on a clean dish Itowel about a head of lettuce I to one towel). Fold the ends of ;iie towels loosely around the .greens. Place in the washer and set the controls for Uie final spin dry cycle. They do not get man gled and will stay in the dishtow el and come out nice and dry. Store them in a gallon freezer canister and they will keep for about a week in the refrigera tor, always ready for salad. MRS. M.S. GIRLS This is a wonderful way to speed up the preparation of greens for a big party, church supper, etc. POLLY DEAR POLLY 11 you are short nf space for storing blankets, fold them lengthwise and hang on coat hangers. For easy access and protection, hang the blankets in side a zippered garment bag. MRS. R. K. DEAR POLLY-When wringing out scalding hot cloths that are being sterilized use a potato ricer as a substitute for your hands. MRS. M.W.C. GIRLS Small cloths could be lifted out of the scalding water with ice tongs, dropped into the rlcer, with the hands never touch ing them. POLLY DEAR POLLY - I have five daughters and I hope my hint will save other mothers as much as it has me. When dresses grow too short for little girls up to five years of age, I use them as tops for their crawlers or long pants. The fuller smocked ones are es pecially nice for this. Wednesday, October t, 1963 Two Artifact Collections Displayed MERRILL At the recent Arti factors Club show organized by Cliff Clayton, Doug Ernst, and Mrs. Carter, two collections were displayed from Merrill, owned by Harvey Greenbanks and Sam my Merriman. Greenbanks has collected arti facts since 1936. His interest in the hobby began when he went on a hunting trip with a friend. Since that time, he has collected about 1,200 artifacts, most of them around Clear Lake and Tu- lelake. The articles are mounted on styrofoam in wooden frames and covered with glass. He has been an active member of the club for the past three years. Merriman started his collection in 1951 and for the next five years found only a few arrowheads. In the late fall of 1956 he found a five-inch spearhead, and his col lection now totals 2,500 pieces "DENNIS THE MENACE" j "WOW COHg CCW80VS NEVW HAVH SO TO 7H BATHROOM? which include arrowheads, cres cents, drills, bone and horn tools, and ornaments such as wedges, awls, dice, beads, and pendants. He also has stone implements, trade goods, and baskets. Five of the baskets were pur chased from the late Dr. Frank Adams' collection. The artifacts are mounted on styrofoam and the Irames, which he makes, are con structed with inlaid wood. Merri man has found his collection around Clear Lake, Tulelake, Lower Klamath- Lake, Klamath River, and Klamath Marsh. He joined the club in 1957. Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 8 p.m. in the- Klamath County Library. All interested persons are invit ed to attend.
