However, .Chuvalo lefthooked his Way to a majority upset decision and now may get a shot at Cassius Clay. UPI Telephoto Tough George Chuvalo Beats Alike De John LOUISVILLE, Ky. (UPI) -fresh from an upset 10-round decision over (Big Mike De John, rugged George Chuvalo made with some bold talk today abut the fellow he's scheduled to light. next, top-ranked heavyweight con tender Cassius Clay. - "Cassius Clay can talk all he wants," Chuvalo 6aid, "but in a showdown I think I can knock him out if the referee gives me a: chance." . It was the kind of remark that may prompt Cassius the prophet to change his prediction to an earlier round when he will stop Chuvalo. Confronting Chuvalo at a press Conference last Tuesday, Clay told the 26-year-old Toronto, Ont.t na tive, he would fall in five. Being perfectly impartial, Clay gave De John the same word The conference was lo an nounce that Clay, who did not1 deign to attend Friday night's fight, would meet the winner. Contracts for the bout were to be signed in the Louiscville of fice of promoter Bill King, who put on Srnaay night s card, too. King said the Clay-Cliuvalo go will be Nov. 8 in Louisville's Freedom Hall. Even though he won, Chuvalo, an 8-5 underdog, beefed about Asbury 's officiating on three counts. (He said he couldn't understand Asbury's scoring of the match. The referee had It a 49-49 draw. although both judges, Kenny Pas tor and Tom Nuckles, gave the decision to Chuvalo by a wide margin. It made the victory a majority, rather than unanimous, decision. . Asbury commented that Chu valo was guilty of "dirty tactics" throughout the bout and that he penalized him for this on his scoreboard, although he did not advise the judges to do likewise, Chuvalo, 21114, established a clear superiority over De John, 2O0'4, In the last live rounds, hav ing him down twice in the sixth and in constant danger of being knocked out by the clouting Canuck's powerful left hooks. The United (Press International score card gave Chuvalo a 47-40 margin. The former Canadian heavy weight champion now has a rec ord of 25 victories, seven losses and two draws. For De John, the defeat was his 12th in 69 bouts. He's fought one draw. Producers 3; Ranch Club 3, Launderette it Chuck's Mobil 2.
