But t nday night s game between Mer rill and Bonanza probably will go a long way in helping decide the Klamath County League title holder this year. . This could be the year for the Huskies of Merrill to grab all the marbles in the Slate Class B running if the Antlers of Bo nanza don't knock them out of it along the way. Other games find Chiloquin at JohnMcHale Says Move Imminent MILWAUKEE (UPD - Civic and Government officials who wooed the Braves here from Bos ton in 1953 will have to start ro mancing once again if they hope to keep the club, it appeared to day. Club president John McHale made it plain Wednesday that the club is considering a move. He said it has "no commitment to any city and that would in clude Milwaukee lor the 1964 6eason." v In other words,, local leaders will have to come up with a firm offer covering attendance and a radio and television package if the Braves are to stay. County Executive John Doyne laid down what apparently are the minimums after a one-hour meeting with McHale Wednesday These are an advance season ticket sale of 9,000 to 10,000, and a radio and television contract worth about $1.23 million. . McHale said the Doyne goals were "herculean," but not "insur-i mountable." "If a group of responsible civic business leaders gave the Braves a' written guarantee they could fulfill such commitments," Mc Hale said, "then this would have to be considered in the form of another offer." "Some campaign must be start ed to increase the sale of season tickets," Doyne said. "In their best days, the Braves sold a min imum of 12,000 season tickets. This year the number was down to 3,800." "Doyne said the county should be seriously concerned about re ports the Braves might leave Milwaukee because the county lias a $8.5 million investment in the stadium. N KODACOLOR FILM ind Black ind White Film ONt DAY SERVICE UNDERWOOD'S CAMERA SHOP tV 719 Main Tulelake and Butte Valley at Ma lin Friday night. The games will begin at 7:30. The Merrill-Bonanza game will be the first league game of the season in the KCL. Both teams come into this game with 1-0 records. The Huskies slaughtered the Tulelake Honkers, 39-0, and Bonanza edged Class AA Sacred Heart Academy, 13-6. Merrill will be the favorite but, Bonanza is expected to give the Huskies the best go they will get in the league. It is an important game, but the loser will get a second crack when the clubs meet the sec ond time during the Potato Festi val at Merrill on Saturday, Oct 26, in a & p.m.. game. Every team plays the others twice in this four-team league.' The Huskies reached the state finals last year before bowing to the champion . Monroe team. Coach Gene Christiansen has vir tually that same team back, with more experience, more weight, speed and desire. The game will feature two of the finest backs in the league running against each other. They are Merrill's 170 - pound Ken Smith, a good broken field run ner with speed and Rod Pteitter, the bull-like halfback ot the Ant lers who ' terrorized the league during the latter half last season as a sophomore. urn MINOR CLASSIC LEAGUE W L Richardson Plastic It 1 Herald and News B 4 Dales Body Shop 7 5 Bruce Owens Realtors 5 Duffs Heating 5 7 McKaigs Potatoes i ' Victor 6 Acme Concrele 3 9 Results: Herald and News 3, Dales Bodv Shoo 1; McKaigs Potatoes 3, Duffs Heating Co. 1; Victors 3, Acme Con- rele l; Bruce owens Keanors v, Kitn- ardson Plastic 4. McFall Ranch closed to all travel. Hunters Included It will also pit a pair of fine passing quarterbacks in Merrill's Dale Kurtz and Bonanza's Ernie Nichols. Kurtz is a southpaw with a fine arm, good running ability and a smart football thinker. Nichols throws the ball well and likes to lug the pigskin, also. The two fullbacks will be close, too, with Merrill pitting Bob Moore against Bonanza's Neil To fell. The other Merrill back will be Bob Merrilees, a big and hard - running back. Bonanza's fourth back is Gery Keck, a 110 pound speed merchant. The Huskies will have the ad vantage in the line with Bill Geraghty, Dwight Winther, Earl Danosky, Doug Woods, Lynn Long, Larry Connor and Ted Roller. Bonanza has Don Schmoe, Gene Pennington, Dean Davis, Greg Williams, Bill Newlun, Ted Dearborn, Bob Hartley, Bob Han kins, Roger Jacob, Jim Seater, Clyde Schmidt, Zeke McWil liams, Chumee Eagle and Lynn Brotherlon to choose a line from with the exception of ends. The end situation on both clubs is good. The Antlers have a broth er combination in Rick and Billy Steber. Rick is the older and his intercepted pass and run back last week beat Sacred Heart. Billy is only a freshman but fast and sure-handed. Merrill probably has the best offensive end in the league in Roller. He has a great pair of hands despite his small size of about 5-10 and 150 pounds. Throw the ball near him and he will latch onto it. The other is rangy Larry Connor, an other fine pair of hands. Malin will be looking for its second victory also. The Mus tangs won only one game all last season and it was against the Butte Valley Eagles. Malin won its opening game by downing the Henley Jayvees, 20-18. A win over Butte Valley would double last year's victory total. : The Mustangs, however, suf fered a crippling blow last week when back Bob Bauer was in jured. It isn't known if he will be able to play Friday or not. He scored well for the Mustangs last week and is probably the fastest back in the league. The top 12 for Malin includes Bauer, Sherm Kalina. Tom Brown. Bill Whitman, Charles Henderson. Reggie LeQuieu. Dale and Jay Parrish, Jack Worthington, War ren Cacka. Phil Petrasek. and Ruben Aldinger. The Chiloquin - Tulelake game could be a real donnybrook. The Panthers and Honkers both were blanked in games last week and are looking for their first vic tories. Chiloquin will be a slight favorite aespite vie honkers hav ing the home field advantage. Chiloquin is led by quarter back - Donnie Taylor who does The New '64 GMC Pick-Ups & Trucks Are In! See 'em! He is a fine punter and almost ran a kick back all the way against the Henley team last week. Coach Gordon Kuist is happy about the attitude of his team as is Coach Darrcll La Rue of tlic Honkers. Chiloquin's line should be the difference in this game. The Panthers will be led in the backfield by Taylor and speedy Dan Penhall. Allen Foreman or Williams Woods will be in the lineup as the third back and Jim Bridge the fourth. Tulelake will have Roy Krizenbeck, Ken Klas- sen, Leslie Mauch and Brad Sle zak at quarterback. Tulelake runs out of the T for mation and Chiloquin will go at the Honkers from a single win. The line for Chiloquin will include Tony DiUlio, Leonard Wilder, Lynn Hescock, Oran Miller, Da vid Van Wormer, Roger Nichol. son, and Dennis Potter. Tulelake's line probably will consist of Kurt Thomas, Ryck Prenger, Rick FuU; ler, Robert Fensler, Brian O'Neill,; Gary Tatum and Bruce Young. ; HERALD AND NEWS, Klamath Falls, Oregon Thursday, September 19, 1963 page-id: Nationally Advertised Clothing and Sporting Goods at . moko tne ; - .35i i Aum& rep a&n? cheep cd gsesb g We're loaded!
