Some players never false-card Others false-card every time they get a chance. The winning tech nique lies somewhere in between In addition there are many occa sions niien a false-card is down right silly. South concealed his nice club suit in the bidding and when West got off to a club lead things looked briglit Indeed. East played tlie nine and South promptly false- carded himself right out of game and rubber. South won with the ace of clubs, led tne nine of diamonds and fi nessed. East took his king and looked around for the right lead, A club return appeared hopeless. Obviously West had not Jed from either queen-jack-ten or king- queen-Jack-ten of clubs so South was marked with at least the ace-king-queen of that suit. A spade shift did not look very good ci ther, but the heart suit showed dis tinct possibilities. East led the two of hearts. South's jack lost to West's queen and the ace dropped his king. A third heart lead gave East tricks with the ten and eight and left poor South high and dry on tto rocks. If South had simply won the first club with the jack East would have had a tough prob lem. The three of clubs lead could easily have been fourth best from a suit headed by ace-queen-ten or even ace-king-ten. In either of those cases a club return would be the winner and East would surely have made it whereupon South would romp home. LITTLE PEOPLE'S PUZZLE F"T I I FT I I iacro53 r;.' A Buddhist nun burned herself to death Thursday in the coastal town of Ninh Hoa, reliable government sources reported. It was the fourth Buddhist suicide in recent weeks in protest to gov ernment policies. Ninh Hoa is about 200 miles north of Saigon, about 200 miles from Hue city where a novice Buddhist priest burned himself to death Tuesday. The evening will feature i showing of "Pcpc" starring Can- tiflas, the Mexican actor, plus short subjects and an assortment of prizes ifor uieater goers. The event is to be the major money raising project of the lo cal AFS chapter this year and will raise funds for the 1964-63 American field Service student program in Dunsmuir. Robert Wright, chapter finance chairman, said the local chapter has sufficient funds to meet the expenses for the visiting foreign student this year. Previously, two other bonzes or Buddhist monks had commit ted suicide by fire in a growing campaign of protest by the Bud dhists who have accused the re gime of President Ngo Dinh Diem of religious and political discrim ination. The government has de nied the charges. The sources reporting the latest suicide said the nun was named Dieu Quang. They said she was in her early 20 s, but others said she was older. The sources said her charred body was taken away by govern ment officials, following her death about 0:30 a.m. In Hue city, police cordoned off the Main Tu Dam pagoda, mak ing virtual prisoners of the 150 Buddhist priests, nuns and follow ers inside. The government has clamped a virtual but undeclared state of martial law on that predominant ly Buddhist city following the Tuesday suicide of 17-ycar-old no vice priest Thich Thanh luc at the Phuc Duycn pagoda, 3'ii miles outside Hue. Tension was reported high in Hue city, where government troons and secret policemen waded into a group of Buddhists with steel helmets Wednesday and took oway Tue's body when the religious group tried to take it into the city for funeral rites and burial at the Tu Dam pagoda. The government insisted that the riles be held at the place where Tue killed himself, indicat ing it felt that any religious pro cession in Hue city in the present state of tension could result in more violence. It is stated that deer appear fewer and feed less abun dant than usual. The latter des pite little dry weather to date. One man stated "It hasn't been good growing weather." Others state the lack of forage is due to a chilly spring rather than lack of moisture. Still an other hunter believes it is due to mental attitude of life hi gen eral. He stated that many hunt ers were disappointed on other things, and lit it frame their outlook on deer. But all admit the fishing had 'been exceptional this spring and when one had good fishing he al ways had the same kind of sport on deer. It will be interesting to ob serve results when deer Hunt ing opens. The pay for inmates is $15 a month. The conservation center's job is to fill these camps with men who are trained and conditioned for the heavy work. The center is constructed of huge quadrangles, enclosing yards that will be planted with grass. The building walls are the only walls. There are no guards in gun towers. Nor are there bars. The men live in dormitories, which also serve as units lor counseling. There are 290 corrections and for estry officers. Statistics have proved the value of the honor camp program. Many of its carefully-selected inmates have returned to society as re sponsible citizens. Only a few in mates have chosen lo walk away. The same success is forecast for the center. , 1AUSUS . Loss of life, loss of vacation lands, loss of timber and watersheds can result from one cigarette thoughtlessly flipped from a car window, or one burning match dropped beside the road. During these fire hazard months, a spark of any kind can be deadly missile. And every year, our forest areas become more and more vital to the nation's welfare. So be extra careful this year.
