Two-Room School Gives Sound Education To 36 A fii'oup (if 3fi pupils in Fort Klamath will pet a sound funda mental education in grades one through six thanks to two dedi cated teachers. Mrs. Frank Strahan enters her 21st consecutive year of teach ing when school opens on Sept. 3. Mrs. Strahan will teach grades one through three, ami Mrs. Hollis Kiwr grades four through six. Prior to six years ago, Mrs. Strahan taught five grades in a one-room school. The sixth grade was added and Mrs. K i I e r joined the staff. The school has two classrooms and enrollment is expectedHo be just about the same this year as last. Mrs. Stralian will have 17 in her classes and Mrs. Kizer the remaining 19. During the past summer, much remodeling and renovating work has been done to the classrooms. Tlie interiors have been complete ly redecorated, new desks have been installed in Mrs. Strahan's rooms, replacing the old ones Mrs. William C. Martin will I begin her ninth year as school bus driver. She covers a territory that ranges from the southern boundary of Crater Lake Nation al Park to near Chilo'quin. She began driving bus in 11151, con tinued to 1MB and then resumed the job in 1930. The present school board con sists of Elmore Nicho.lson. chair man; Mrs. William Brown and Mrs. Edwin Scott. Denies Charges PNOM PENH, Cambodia (UPH Camlwdia Saturday denied charges by Thailand that it had massed troops along the Thai border. Council Planned For Math Teachers Mathematics instructors and specialists from throughout the country will gather at the Uni versity of Oregon Aug. 22-24 for the 2;ird summer meeting of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The three-day session will in clude talks by noted speakers, approximately 50 section meet ings for educators at all grade levels, exhibits and demonstra tions. Wendell C. Hall of North Eugene High School, is general chairman of coordinating and planning for the conference. Arthur S. Fleming, university president, will welcome delegates and Dr. G. Polya. Stanford Uni versity, will present the first ma jor address at the Aug. 22 gen eral session. His topic is "Choos ing Instructive Problems." Other conference Speakers and their topics will be Andrew M Gleason, Harvard University, "In formation Theory"; Raymond H. Wilson, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, "The Im portance of Mathematics in the Space Ago"; Dr. .lohn H. Fur bay author and lecturer, "Count down lor Tomorrow"; and Thorn ton Page, Wcslcyan University. "Public Understanding of Sci ence and Mathematics." University of Oregon faculty members participating in the con ference will be Clarence W. Schminke, assistant professor of education; Eugene Maier. as sociate professor of mathemat ics; A. F. Moursund, head of the Department of Mathematics, and George Struble, assistant profes sor of mathematics and research associate, Statistical Laboratory and Computing Center. Local math teachers in charge of various phases of the meeting are Scott D. McFadden, Kenneth Kienjle, Vernon Kerley, and Wil liam Best, all of Eugene: Allen Eenwick and Wilma Wilson, Springfield; Belle W. Smith, Junc tion City; and Stella Holt, Cot tage Grove. Highliglits of the conference will be a reception from 8 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, in the ballroom of the Erb Memorial Student Union; a banquet Fri day, Aug. 2:1, and a Saturday luncheon, both to be held in the student union. One of the deputies had stopped for a routine night check of a school grounds. He should have returned to his car, but he didn't answer his radio. The dispatcher kept calling. Finally the deputy answered. Nothing wrong, he said. It was just that a skunk had gotten between him and his car and he preferred to wait for the skunk to move on.
