A daughter, Cora Enman, who has been in San Francisco taking special voice lessons, came home to assist her mother. are ready A RR Reports Eight Fires MOUNT SHASTA - There have been eight railroad - caused fires in the Sacramento district of the Shasta Trinity National Forest within the last week, according to Bob Gray, fire control officer. All have been controlled by railroad and forest service crews with less than an acre loss to each fire. Air tanker planes were re quired Saturday to control a rail road - caused fire in the Sacra mento Canyon, five miles north of Dunsmuir. The fire was limited to six-tenths of an acre. Gray said railroad crews are currently clearing existing fire breaks, but hot brake shoe flakes and burning particles of carbon from diesel engines continue to create a hazard. Of the .16 fires reported on the Sacramento district this season. 17 have been fires along railroad right-of-way. three lightning fires, six incendiary fires, four careless smoker fires, three hobo fires, and three fires attributed to chil dren playing with matches. Less than 11)0 acres of national forest has burned within the dis trict so far this year. Gray said, but the fire danger increases sharply in the next two months. He attributed the small losses to prompt action by suppression crews but warned that if several fires occur at once, control be comes increasingly difficult. "We can't always keep them litlle." Gray warned. to explode! threatened. If a fire starts in last year's blow down, whole communities could be burned out. As a result, every precaution possible is being taken to reduce the danger. Regular seasonal fire closures have been broadened to include seme lands previously open to the public. These clo sures will run through September if necessary. Your help is needed.
