San Diego grabbed a 7-0 lead, but somehow managed to wind up on the short end of a 15-12 count at game's end. Salt Lake had a pair of six-run innings and outhit the Padres, 17-16. Things were a bit tamer else where in the Pacific Coast League. Spokane disposed of Ok lahoma City, 4-2, in a game that seemed like a convention of for rtor Los Angeles Dodgers. i vhis increased Spokane's North ern Division lead to 7'i games since Tacoma fell before Portland 8-5. Meanwhile, Dallas-Ft. Worth disposed of Denver, 6-3. behind young Marv Mecklenburg to move 1'2 games up on Oklahoma City in the Southern Division. Seattle nudged Hawaii 5-4 in a struggle of also-rans. Homers by Bill Cowan, Curt Jenson, and Bob Will helped Salt Lake outlast San Diego. Jack Warner, who arrived in Salt Lake city after the game had begun, picked up the win in relief and is now 4-1. He had been sent to the Chicago Cubs and was shuf fled back yesterday. Ted Wills, third of four Padre hurlers, took the loss and is now 9-8. Mel Queen, Bobby Klaus and Deron Johnson had big nights for the Padres, but San Diego still lost to Salt Lake for the 14th in 17 meetings this season. Spokane got to ex-Dodger Jim Golden for eight hits in four in nings while piling up a 3-0 lead. Ray Jablonski and George Banks led the Ranger attack. Each cracked a two-run double. Russ Gibson's two-run homer in the seventh inning helped Seattle get the win over Hawaii. The Islanders got off to a 2-0 lead and held on behind Dick Sovde. But then Seattle scored three in the seventh with Bill Tuttle's two run double do ing most of the damage.and went out in front 5-2 on Gibson's blast. The Islanders scored twice in the eighth, but Jay Ritchie then came on to preserve the win for Billy Spanswick. now 10-7. Sovde is 7-12 for the islanders.
