MRS. CHARLOTTE FITZinJGH and son, Cole, had as recent visi tors, Mr. and (Mrs. Robert Fitz hugh and daughter, Kim, of Colby, Kan., and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Elmore of Houston, Tex. CAL LEAVITT, who is stationed at Travis Air Force Base, spent a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Leavitt. It was his first visit home in over six years. His sister, Mrs. Frank Sil va, and Maria and Jeff of Pleas anton, Calif., accompanied him. Jeff will spend some time with his grandparents. MRS. VIOLA DEARBORN, vis iting here from Bishop, Calif., is spending a week at Merrill with Mrs. Elite Oilman MRS. MILDRED CAMPBELL lett July 22 for Portland to visit her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mathers. She went up with Mrs. Emilie Swenscn, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Louis fiandall. MR. AND MRS. CLARENCE PEATROSS of San Francisco spent the weekend with his sister, Mrs. Mae Gale, and other relatives. RAY VOWELL and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Vowell and Susan of Malin visited Mr. and Mrs. Les Leavitt and family on Sun day evening. MR. AND MRS. JACK MET LER of Klamath Falls spent the weekend with their daughters, Mrs. George Kcady and Mrs. Wayne Yancey, and their families. MR. AND MRS. BILL BUR NETT went to Klamath Falls on Sunday to visit her cousin, Sandy Pinelli, and family, who are mov ing to Santa Rosa to make their home. MERRILL MR. AND MRS. HOMER HILL have returned home from an ex tensive trip to Canada and the northeast and southern states, RICKY AND CINDY HODGES have been visiting here since school closed. Their parents, the James Hodges, Sacramento, will! arrive to take them home. MR. AND MRS. BOB DRAGOO have as guests, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Layton, San Francisco. The two couples plan to spend a week at Diamond Lake. MR. AND MRS. DON HEATON and boys have moved to Terre bonne where Heaton will work on construction. I.ON PENNY has returned from Reno where he spent several xlays vacationing. MRS. VIVIAN IIA.SK1NS will go to Winchester Bay with her son. Lee, and Dick Hart. Mr. and Mrs. John Ginther, Klamath Falls. THE BILL SMITHS had as weekend guests, the Melton Hick- cy family of Corvallis. They camped overnight at Dead Horse Lake. GUV FOSTER became ill sud denly July 9 and was hospitalized until July 13 at St. Charles Me morial Hospilal, Bend. JEFF McDANIEL'S family spent a week at Elgin with his wife's family. Jinks McDanicl was in charge of their business during their absence, MU. AND MRS. BILL SMITH had as guests, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Deines, and cousins, Sandra and Jack Han- ney, Weiscr. AIR. AND MRS. II. C. HARRIS have returned from a 10-day trip to Oakland where they left his sislcr, Mrs. Rela Thornton, who had been visiting here. They vis ited other relatives, the Knotls Berry Farm, and historical sites at Virginia City and Reno en route home. MR. AND MRS. VIRGIL KIMES of Junction City were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Manlcy Currier. DEBBIE AND WAYNE CAN NON accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Bat Doherty, friends of the Dean Cannons from llines, to Burns where they visited an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Swede Ros- ling, for a week. Their parents motored to Burns for the chit drcn, spending the weekend with the Roslmgs, MRS. BERNADINE HANSON and daughter, Linda, have re turned to Bellcvue, Wash. Mrs. Hanson has been with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Currier, since late May. Linda arrived after school was out URSA MILLION of Corning and Craig and Gary Brunnemcr of! Los Molinas were here for a week's visit with the William Harvey family. Mrs. Million, Airs, Harvey, and grandsons visited in Bend with Florence Stout, during their stay. SARA OGLE is visiting her John Withers, while her mother, Mrs. James Ogle, and two sis ters arc attending Girl Scout Camp at Cottonwood. MRS. C. A. CHARLES (CHUCK) ZUM BRUN is having a new home built next to his cottage on his local property. The house is Hear ing completion and is being built by a building and supply company of Chiloquin. MR. AND MRS. WILBUR B. IIESCOCK are constructing a new home. The Hescocks have lost two homes in recent years by fire, and their new home is be ing built on the site of the first one, next to the Raymond E. Van Wormer home. Hcscock is an employe of the Crater Lake Park Service. NEW PINE CREEK ' MR. AND MRS. RALPH COL- HOUR of Seattle spent last week visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Griffith at their royal purple ob sidian mine on Lassen Creek. The Griliiths are presently build ing a cabin for year-round living quarters there. Mrs. Colhour is one of the leading lapidarists in the country. NI'C NEEDLE CLUB held a regular monthly meeting Satur day at the home of Mrs. Fayc Keller Rose. Three guests in cluded Mrs. Ruth Howard and Mrs. Mary Peat, Lakeview, and Mrs. Dorothy Tragitt of Montana who is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Peat, Lakeview. The next meeting will be a pic nic Aug. 18 at the firemen's pic nic grounds. MR. AND MRS. DOUG GARDI- NER have purchased the Kelton Butler home and plan to move soon, according to Mrs. Gardiner Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hoover and family plan to move out this week. DAVE LABOREE, who lives near Eugene, is visiting his sis tor, Mrs. Helen Faris. He plans to enter the School of Forestry at Susanvillc tins fall. MR. AND MRS. LLOYD Mc LAIN of Roardon, Wash., were visitors recently at the home of his uncle, Homer McLain, and fam ily. TOM DICK is recuperating nicely irom an operation per formed on his right eye in Klam ath Falls recently. MRS. R. Y. III.AYLOCK of Con cord, Calif., arrived Thursday and has been visiting old school mates, llallic and Mattie Cook. They all attended grade school together at Lake City shortly alter the turn of the cenlurv and have not had a reunion lor 28 years. MRS. Then they were asked to write Navy Aide Denies Any TFX Interest WASHINGTON (UPI) - Navy Secretary Fred Korth, in testi- monty made public today, offered to resign if Senate investigators concluded improper influences colored his decision in the disput ed TFX fighter plane contract award. Korth emphatically denied any conflict of interest in the multi billion dollar contract awarded last November to General Dy namics Corp., in his hometown of Fort Worth, Tex., and said he re sented such implications. "I repeat that I believe that I am a man of integrity," he told a Senate investigating subcom mittee member. "If you find or this committee finds that I am not, certainly you should so rec ommend to the President and I will DromDtlV hand in my resig-.sale nation." The influence issue arose as t h e subcommittee questioned Korth Tuesday in his final day of prolonged testimony. Transcripts of the closed hearing were made public today. Air Force Secretary Eugene Zuckert is scheduled to testify Thursday. The subcommittee, headed by Sen. John L. McClellan, D - Ark., is inquiring into why the TFX contract, expected to exceed $6.51 billion, went to the team of General Dynamics and Grum man Aircraft Co., although Pen tagon military officials favored a rival bid by Boeing Co. Mundt noted that Dynamics plans to build the supersonic Navy-Air Force fighter at its plant in Fort Worth. Mundt sparked the exchange over pos-j sible influence. "I don't say it is impossible. but I think it would stagger a Solomon to look objectively at a contract that meant as much to your community as this one would, Mundt told Korth. "I resent, sir, " Korth replied, even your asking me what safe guards I might have taken to be an honest man." Communists MA Confab MOSCOW (UPD Premier Nikita S. Khrushchev met with his satellite leaders from Eastern Europe and Asia for a conference expected to ratify the Moscow-Peking split and tighten the -unity of the Soviet bloc. The meeting was billed as a session of the Council of Mutual Economic Assistance (COMECON) the Communist rival to the Euro pean Common Market, but its discussions were believed certain to range far beyond questions of trade. It was Ihe first summit meet ing in the Communist world since the breakup of the Smo-Soviet ideological talks last weekend, and the deepening division of the Com munist ranks was expected to dominate Its discussions. Khrushchev's apparent readi ness to seek settlements with the West was believed to be another major topic. The COMECON meet ing coincided with the final phase of East -West nuclear negotiations. Two victories over Peking were apparent in the makeup of the delegations attending. Romania, which sent no repre sentatives to Khrushchev's East Berlin summit preceding the Sino Soviet talks, was represented by Premier Gheorghc Gheorghiu-Dcj. Romania appeared for a time to be wavering from the Moscow line, not out of sympathy for Pe king but because it resented Mos cow controls on its industrializa tion drive. It was the only Soviet bloc nation to publish last month's Chinese attacl on Khrushchev Outer Mongolia, tlie sole Asian Communist nation to back Klvrush- chev against Peking, conlirmod its support by sending both Premier and Partv Chief to the COMECON talks. Mongolia, which lies be tween tiro Soviet and Chinese bor ders, has been wooed by both sides in tlte past. COMECON's answer to the Chinese attacks was expected to be a further reduction of trade with tlw Asian Communist nations in Peking's sphere of intluvnre.
