Babe Ruth Tourney To Start The Oregon District On Babe Ruth Tournament gets under way Wednesday night at Gem Stadi um with possibly one of the best games of the tournament open ing the meet. The tournament, which runs through Saturday, finds the fa vored Nationals of (he Klamath Basin League taking on the rug ged West All-Stars of the South Suburban Babe Ruth League. The Nationals are the tournament fa vorite but could get their tough est battle in this first contest. This game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. The second game Wednesday night will pit the American League stars of the Basin League against the Cal-Ore AU-Stars. The Cal-Ore stars are made up of players primarily from Lakeview and Alturas. The nun team in tnc tournament, the Suburban East All-Stars, drew a bye. They will play the winner of the National West game Thursday night in the second game. Jim Piersall May Be Out Of Baseball NEW YORK (UPI) Jimmy Piersall, one of the major league's biggest drawing cards because of his colorful and zany antics, may have clowned himself! out of baseball. The New York Mcts announced Monday that they have asked waivers on the 33-year-old out fielder for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release. If Piersall isn't claimed within 72 hours, he is free to make a deal for himself as a 12-year major league veteran. In addition to h l s clowning. which didn't go over too good with the Mets management, Pier sall batted only .193, with 10 runs batted in for the last-place Mets since arriving May 23. Piersall came to the Mets from Washington in the deal which per mitted Gil Hodges to take over as Senators' manager.
