Your team lost a doubleheader and you were hit in the face with a beer container? Chin up. waiter Alston, your Los Angeles Dodgers are leadings the National League by six games and you have a nine-game home stand coming up. Despite 7-2 and 13-7 losses to the Milwaukee Braves Sunday, the Dodgers wound up their suc cessful road trip with a 10-4 mark, giving them a six-game lead over the St. Louis Cardi nals. When the road trip began, i the Dodgers held only a three-' game lead ovor the San Francis-1 co Giants. , The usually quiet and re-strained Alston, with the Dodg ers' disastrous collapses of the past two seasons indelible in his mind, was ejected in the sixth in ning of the first game by um pire Tom Gorman. UPI Radiotelephoto Brooks, Hagelstein Garner Singles Titles In Tennis Earl Brooks and Ruth Hagel- Jennings pair toppled Perry and stein, veterans of many tennis wars, again captured the men's and women's singles titles in the second annual Linkville Kiwanis City Tennis Tournament at Moore Park Sunday. They both have won singles titles for five years running. The tournament hadn't quite fin ished and had some junior events to run off today. Brooks downed Ray Tice, 6-1, 6-1, for the men's title. He got into the finals by axing Jim Nor land. 6-1. 7-5. Tice downed Wally Rounsfull, 6-3, 6-2 to gain the finals. Mrs. Hagelstein toppled Sue Jennings in the finals, 7-5. 6-3. She had downed Beverly Jennings in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-4, while Sue had beaten Darlcne Perry, 7-5. 6-3. Brooks teamed with Jerry Jen nings to win the men's doubles They beat Ray and Larry Tice, 6-4, 3-6, fi-2. They stopped Jelf Neal and Bud Case in the semis, 6-2, 6-3. The Ticcs defeated Nor-land-Rounsfull, 6-3, 11-9. Ruth Hagelstein teamed with Gertie Brooks to capture the women's doubles by beating Sue and Beverly Jennings, 6-4. 4-6, 6-3. The w inning duo topped Vir ginia Borden and Linda HrooKs in the semis. 4-6. 6-1, 6-2. The Shirley Anderson, 7-9, 6-2. 6-0. Larry Tice downed Tom Cole to win the junior men's singles as expected. He topped Tom 6 0. 6-1 and beat Terry Cole in the semis 6-3, 6-0. Tom beat Phil Juckcland, 6-4, 7-5, to gain the finals. Tom Cole beat Robby Hall, 6-1, 6-2. to gain the boy's singles. He beat brother Terry in the finals, 6-0, 6-4, for the title. Terry beat Harold Tice in tins match in the meet's biggest upset, 6-3, 6-3. Beverly Jennings won the junior girl's singles by downing Linda Brooks lor the title, 6-3, 6-1. She beat Paula Morrison in the semis, 6-1, 6-1. Linda beat Janet t)en ham, 6-2, 6-2, to get to the finals. Beverly also won U'.J girl's sin gles by downing oanct Denham, 6-0, 6-0, in the semis and Paula Morrison, 6-1, 6-2, in the finals. There was satisfaction for both Sunday. The 32-year-old Lary scored his first victory in more than a year when he pitched a four-hitler as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Los Angeles Angels, 8-2. And the 22-ycar-old Downing pitched his sixth victory to start the New York Yankees off to a error during Detroit's Uiree'-run sixth inning. Meanwhile, Downing pitched an odd game in which he struck out 10 batters and walked nine before tiring in the ninth inning and re quiring relief from Hal Reniff. All three other games hi the AL Sunday were decided by 3-2 scores the Minnesota Twins edging the Washington Senators, the Boston Red Sox beating tlie Chicago White Sox. and the Kansas City Athletics topped the Baltimore Orioles. Rain forced postponement of a scheduled twin bill second game between Boston and Chicago. It was a long time between ma jor league victories lor Lary, who returned to the Tigers three weeks ago after a stretch with Knox- ville of the Sally League, where he had been sent to pitch his ail ing shoulder back into shape. Lary struck out five batters and walked only two in pitching the distance. A 13-hit Tiger at tack with four stolen bases, and four Los Angeles errors, all helped. Angels starter Dean Chance aided Lary's cause with an against Russia Sunday. The U.S won the men s meet 119-114. Burleson, using his familiar come-from-behind style of run ning, finished strong and overtook Tom O'Hara of Loyola of Chicago to win in 3:41. O'Hara was second in 3:41.3.
