Worth while the Tacoma Giants picked up some slack over the weekend and remain 3"i games behind Spo kane. Dallas-Ft. Worth took both ends of a doubleheadcr from down trodden Seattle, 9-3 and 7-4 while Oklahoma City split with San Diego, dropping the first game 8 3 but coming back to capture the nightcap 3-1. Tacoma made it two straight over Spokane by win ning the first game 5-4 but then lost 6-2 in a nine inning affair. Rogclio Alvarez, San Diego first baseman, was a one man army in the first game against Okla homa City. He had a brace of home runs and two singles for a perfect day at the plate. His hitting gave John Flavin h i s seventh win against as many losses while Connie Crob got the loss, his ninth of the year. Chico Ruiz got three hits for San Diego, batted in a pair of runs and swiped his 33rd base of the sea son. Jim Golden gained his seventh win in the nightcap, holding the Padres to six hits. The Padres were ahead 1-0 going into the sixth when Bob Klaus plastered one of Ted Wills' pitches out of the park with a mate aboard. Garibaldi Goes Route Tacoma, after whipping the Spokane Indians 8-0 Saturday night, handed the visitors a 5-4 beating in the nine inning first game. Bob Garibaldi worked the entire game, allowing eight hits to 16 for his club. He aided his own cause in the bottom of the ninth with a run-producing single after Spokane tied it in the eighth on a base on balls and a home run by Jim Barbieri. The second game, scheduled for 7 innings, went to the ninth when Spokane pushed across four runs to gain the decision. Both teams scored once in the eighth. Ta- coma's coming on Jesus Alou's home run. Phil Ortega aided his own cause starting the rally in the ninth with a single, scoring moments later along when John Werhas doubled. Ortega was tough in the clutches, scattering six hits. Portland's Lew Krausse chalked up his 10th victory but needed help from Rudy Hernandez in the second game of the doubleheader against Salt Lake City. Hector Martinez drove in two runs for the Beavers with a double and a single. Three runs by the Bees in the final inning gave them the first game. Jesse White got a two-run single and Jim Stewart singled to drive iin the other tally. Al Lary got the win while Dave Thies was the loser.
