The high jump was the only event held in the second of two weekly track meets by the Klam ;ath Basin Athletic Association Thursday afternoon at Modoc Field. The broad jump pit was ;i filled with water and unusable. ' KBAA president George Deme ;trakos reports that the most pop t u'ar divisions were the girls classl Local Loan Drops T&C, Wears Title ; Local Loan kept its winning :ways Thursday night in the South Suburban Babe Ruth League by outslugging Town and Country in '.a slugfest, 15-13, and Pacific Co '.op downed Musgrove, 12-7. I The Loaners neared the title Iwith the victory as each team got ;il hits. Local Loan committed eight errors to only five for the losers. Gary Fanning started for the winners but was relieved in the second by Randy Simonsen who got credit for the win. Dor ran McBride opened for the los ers and gave way ui the third to Mike Carlson, the loser. The winners tallied three runs in the first, one in the second, six in the third and five in the fourth. TiC notched one in the first, six in the second, one in the third, and five in the fourth. ' Simonsen, John Ferrell and Da vid Warren led the winners with three hits apiece. Simonsen had all singles, Ferrell one double and Warren a double. Bob Larman also doubled for the winners. Carlson led the losers with a triple and two singles. Greg Jones slapped three singles and Mc Bride a pair. . Pacific rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to over take the Musgrove Plumbing crew. Musgrove had nine hits to seven for Pacific. Rodney Clin ton was the winner. Ho allowed -the nine hits, struck out nine and Walked only three. Fred Cole lost on a seven-hit game while walk ing eight and whiffing eight. ! Chuck Church led the losers 'with a double and single. He his a best leap of 5-10 for his career. Fred Zahler was second in that dm sion with a leap of 4-7 and Vern Huck third at 4-6. Another good leap during the afternoon's session was a 5-6"-4 jump by Allen Phillips in the 17 and over class. He was the only contestant in that division. The younger boys found Joe Petrotta winning the third straight class event with a 2-6 jump. He also won the both the dash events for the 6 and under division. Brent Smith was second at 2-5, Pete Brandsness third at 2-4. Ted Strunk and Mike Wendt tied for the 7-8-year class at three feet even. Darcy Staples was third in that division at 2-9 Mark Wendt won the 9-10 class jump at 3-3 and George Domet rakos was second at 2-10. The lt-12-year-old group had Daryl Hale as a leader with a fine effort at 4-9. This was also his third victory after the dash wins Mike Hampton was second at 4-5. B.G. Brosterhous was third at 4-4. The 13-14-year-old division was a tie between Nick Domet ra kos and David Walrath at 4-6. Marlene Staples was third at 3-6. The girls also got off some fine jumps. Janis Narramore and Ruby Hill tied in the 11 and over class with good jumps of 3-11. Margie Blair was third at 3-7 and a fourth place tie between Mar lene Staples and Opal Cornwcll at 3-6. The 9-10 group found Chris Brosterhous winning at 3-5. She was far ahead of second place Dorothy Staples at 2-8. Paula Pelrotta was third at 2-6 and Charla Lelli fourth at 2-4. Resha Grover won the eight and under class at 2-5 with Shirley Lelli second at a foot and a half. Portland Picked For NCAA Site COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UPI) - The NCAA University Basketball Tournament Commit tee has chosen Portland, Ore., for the 1965 NCAA university basket ball tourney finals. Bornie Shivcly, athletic director of the University of Kentucky and chairman of the committee, said the tourney would lie held March 19-20, 1965, at Portland's Memori al Coliseum. Representatives for Kansas City, Mo.; Louisville, Ky.; St. Louis, Mo., and Portland present ed bids for the tournament at the committee's meeting Thursday. Portland was chosen, Shivcly said, because the committee ! lioiiR.it tho tournament should be moved around the country end the West Coast has not had it in'single. He was the only one with several years. The 1964 tourney will be held in Kansas City, Mo. Salem Garners First Position By United Press International The idle Salem Dodgers moved into sole possession of first place in the Northwest League by de fault Thursday night as Lewiston cut down Wenatcliec 10-2. The Chiefs and Dodgers had been tied for first. Yakima trounced Kugt-no 19-2 in live only other game. Lewiston broke out for four runs on a homer and four doubles in the fourth inning and scored (ive more runs in the fifth. Gary Sanossian was the winner. Yakima batters had a licld day against three Kmerald pitchers, raking them for 19 hits including seven doubles. Too James had two doubles and three singles in six times al bat and srnred four runs. He's Pete Richcrt, who chalked up his fourth victory without a toss Thursday night by hypnotiz ing Seattle 8-3 on a six-hit per formance for the Indians. Richert started the season with the Dodgers but was sent to the Indians about a month ago. On June 29 he pitched a one hitter against Dallas-Ft. Worth, winning 8 0 in -the seven inning contest. He picked up another victory in relief in July against Hawaii. Led Southern Association The big southpaw led the south ern association in snutouts in I960 and set an all-time high striking out 251 batters that year. Pete received plenty of support from his teammates who banged in five runs in a big fifth frame. They had five hits, two walks, two fielder's choices and a Seattle error. Tulelake, after dropping iLs sec ond game only this week, had to scrap to notch tile win over the hustling Cleaners of Superior Troy as each team could manage only two hits. Greg Cushman was the winning hurlcr for Tulelake. He struck out five and walked four in the five- inning stint. Steve Runge was the loser in allowing only two hits and walking six while whiffing only three. Superior Troy made the only error of the game. Tulelake tallied single runs in the first and second and came back wilh the clincher in the fourth. The Cleaners scored both theirs in the first frame. Harrison, Kneece Top Golf Meet HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (UPI) - Dutch Harrison and Harold Kneece, playing almost perfect golf on tricky greens, both took iour-under-par 68s into the sec ond round of the $25,000 Hot Springs Open golf tournament today. Trailing at 69 were Dave Hill, Bob Goalby, Dave Marr, Mike Snuchak, Paul Bnndeson, Tom Shaw and Jerry Edwards. Harrison, in one of his rare tournament appearances since he left his hometown of Conway, Ark., and joined the tour in 1937, made his first pro appearance in his home state. Harrison said he bad not played the course in eight years, but apparently had not forgotten anything as he hit every green and birdied five holes. He shot a 36-32 on the 36-36 par layout. Kneece, 27, of Aiken, S C., is shooting for his first tournament victory after losing loads in the final rounds of the Pensacola and Memphis events earlier this year. He stole second, moved to third on an in field out and scored on a passed bail. The second inning i:m that tied the game came wbi Darrell Todd was walked. He gained second on a passed ball, third on an error and scored on a fly ball off tile bat of Cushman. Superior Troy rang up both their runs in the first. Curt Shad- duck and Terry Hanson led off with walks and advanced on passed balls. Charles Miles then slammed one of the two hits to score them both. The other hit came off the bat of Doug Ward in the second. Jack Slezak got both the hits for Tulelake. Fluhrer's had to put down a Dugan and Mest rally to win its game. The winners had an 11-4 lead going into the final frame when Dugan and Mest rallied for four runs before the rally was killed. Despite winning. Fluhrer's bad only eight hits to the losers' nine. Dave Kovioli and Rick Lynn com bined for the pitching victory, Lynn coming in in the final two frames to help put out the fire. Jim Bridges was the loser. Fluhrer's tallied seven runs in the big third inning on five hits, two walks and four errors. Steve Lynn. Jim Drew and Dave Zaro sinski led the winners with two hits each.
