Track Program
Gets Underway
The Klamath Basin Athletic As
sociation's summer track pro
gram got underway at Modoc
Field Tuesday afternoon with
three events being run off un
der age brackets and with some
35 participants taking part in
the opening events.
There were three events run off
Tuesday and Thursday's meet
will include the broad jump and
high jump. There will be meets
every Tuesday and Thursday so
athletes wishing to take part can
keep watching this sports sec
tion lor word of when his or
her special event is coming up.
This was the first phase of
the summer program which the
KBAA hopes to conclude with
taking a team to the Emerald
ljmpire Athletic Association
1EEAA1 meet in Eugene in Au
gust. One big meet before that
time is hoiwd for. But records
established in the weekly program
will all be new records for the
holders.
The records established Tues
day were tile first ones and the
remainder will be records until
broken. The first KBAA under
taking was run under age divi
sions which had too wide a mar
gin of ages. Kids in this program
run with kids their own age so as
to have a better chance.
The events run Tuesday were
the 60, 100 and 220-yard dashes.

There were some fine times
established also. The younger kids
just making their debuts into
track did well. Marrianne Bold
ran a fine 98 60-yard dash for
8- year-old girls and under. Deb
ra Vroman won her heat in the
9- 10 age group in 8 9.
But the most startling time of
the dav was a brilliant 12.9 100-
yard dash by Ruby Hill in the
girl s division. This is a very
good time for an 11 and over
bracket girl. Opal Cornwell ran
a 13.2 and Terry DeVore a 13.4,
both creditable times.
Miss Bold also won the 220 in
her class in 38 3. Vroman re
peated in the 9-10 group with a
32.2 ar.d Miss Hill made a sweep
by turning in another fine time
of 29.1 in the 220.
Joe Petrotta won the 6-vear-old
and under boy's 60 and 220-yard
dashes. He copped the 60 in 9.9
despite stopping to watch the
remainder of the field finish and
won the 220 in 42.6. Mark Holla
day won the 7-8 group 60-yard
dash 10.4. Don Diver topped
Don Adkins and George Deme-
trakos in the 9-10 group in 9.1.
Daryl Hale copped the 11-12
year division with a clocking o.'
7.4 in the 60-yard dash. He also
won the 220 in 26.3. Bill Steber
won the 13-14 group 100-yard dash
in a fine clocking of 11 fiat. Nick
Demetrakos was second in 113
and Hale third in 11.4.
Bob Rice won both the 100
and 220 in the 17 and over age
group with a 10.2 time in the
100 and a 23.4 220 lime. Don
Phillips was second in both.
