Oregon Bonds Get Approval A bill passed by the legislature and signed by the governor earli er this month provides the ma chinery for counties to sell bonds (or street improvements under the Bancroft Bonding act, which became law two years ago. Although the Bancroft act be came law under the previous leg islature, it did not specify provi sions for the selling of bonds and, therefore, did not become effective until this month when two new amendments (Senate BUI .432) to the law were passed, according to Klamath County Treasurer Eva Cook. The amendments to the Ban croft bill was the idea of Mrs. Cook, who was assisted by the County Engineer's Department, and received the endorsement of the Association of Oregon Coun ties. The measure was introduced to ihe legislature by Sen. Harry Boivin and Rep. George Flitcraft and was read to the legislators lor the first time in April 17. Under the law now in effect, the county is authorized to sell bonds for street improvement department may be reimbursed immediately after the work Is completed, Mrs. Cook said. Under the former plan, proper ly owners paid for their street assessment work in monthly in stallments and it was sometimes years before the county road de partment was paid in full for one street project. Properly owners will continue to pay for this work in monthly installments, if they choose, but they will do so through a bonding company.
