June 27, Herald Newt 1963 Page S-C Klamath Talk KF Students Take Service Training OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY A total of 233 ROTC students from Oregon State University will take summer training in the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Ma rine Corps this year. ROTC students from Klamath Falls taking summer training in clude: Army Stephen . Binney, 724 Mitchell Street: Air Force ' John E. Roberts, 1730 Homedale . Road, and James A. Caldwell, " 3004 Bisbee Street: Navy Wil liam Clark Foster. 172 Dahlia Street, and Charles Ellis Russell, 2MB Wantland Avenue. "AH of the 83 Army cadets juniors and seniors will attend summer camp at Fort Lewis, Wash., for seven weeks. They started training June 15. Twenty eiglit Air Force senior cadets will take four weeks of training at Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash., and one will train at Hamilton Air Force Base, Calif. Navy and Marine Corps cadets will go across the country and partway around the world on their summer cruises aboard naval vessels, They are sophomores, juniors and seniors. Twenty three midshipmen will participate in two-month training cruises jtn the Mediterranean and Western Pacific area; 57 will go on Pacific Ocean fleet training cruises out of San Diego and Long Beach, Calif.; 38 will take aviation indoctrination training at Corpus Christi, Tex., followed by naval amphibious training at Cor onado, Calif.; and three will at tend Marine Corps summer camp at Quantico, Va. Youth Saves 6 Children ROSEBURG (UPH-A 15-ycar. old boy was credited with saving the lives of six other children when flames roared through their home here early Wednesday. "If it hadn't been for the excep tionally fine action of James Burt, the other children undoubtedly woura navo pensnerf, ' Jtoseburg Rural Fire Chief Cliff Thrasher said. The boy and (lie six other youngsters, aged 3 to 10, were asleep in a second story room of the Irame home when the firo was discovered about 3:54 a.m. Phrasher said James herded his sister and two brothers and tliree cousins into a back bedroom and forced them to lie on the floor. His father, Byron, had gone for a ladder and placed K near the window of the back room. James guided four of the children down the ladder to safety and with his father's help, got the other two youngsters outside. Fire officials said the boy's uncle, William Ferren, and his three daughters, aged 7, t and 10. were living w ith the Burt. Ferren suffered serious burns. Mrs. Burt suffered burns on her arms and back. Cause of the fire, which appar ently started in the dining room, was not Immediately known.
