DATE SET Ona Lea Terry and Dennis Wayne Russell have chosen July 6 as the date for their marriage which will take place in Tulelake where the future bride's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. John V. Terry, reside. The bridegroom-to-be, son of James Russell, Indio, Calif., is stationed at Kingsley Field. His fiancee is employed as a beautician in Tulelake. For a cool effect, bangs grace the forehead and cir clettes of hair at the sides brush each cheek while the back flips upward into a soft swirl. Klamath Falls women inter estcd "in taking off pounds sen sibly" are a serious and consci entious group organized locally as the "Girdles Away" club. Affiliated with the national TOPS Club, Inc.. they follow the mam objective of the organiza tion, to reduce sensibly and con trol weight. Millions have dieted, lost a little and gone right back to their old habits. The first person to do anything constructive about this by getting rid of it and keeping it off in a club fashion was a Mrs. Esther Schuland Manz. Her small club grew and gained the name of TOPS. In a few years this year grew to 3.000 mem bers, all helping each other with group therapy and encourage ment to those with lack of will power. Now this club numbers 15.000 members throughout the world. The local group, "Girdles Away," meets every Wednesday evening at the Community Lounge at 7:30 p.m. Prior to the meet ing a "weigh in" time lakes place with records kept of progress of weight loss. The last meeting of the month Is special with refreshments of low calorie salad and coffee served. Meetings arc devoted to dis cussions on losing weight, not by crash diets, but by sensible eat ing and following the advice of personal physicians. To make the whole plan more fun and interesting, contests are held. A towel contest is current ly in progress. Eacn member par ticipating donates a towel. The members losing the most pounds in an allotted time will win the towels. Two other clubs are in the Hen ley area, one meets in the morn ings, the other in the evening These clubs and the Klamath Falls group also vie for the best lecord in weight loss. These women invite all inter ested women lo join their club and offer the following recipe as incentive. Nine will be among 54 seniors to be graduated June 16 from Mooseheart High School, where he is sponsored by Merrill Moose Lodge No. 306, In addition to nis diploma, he will receive a vocational training certificate in orna mental concrete. While at Mooseheart, he was a member of the varsity foot ball, wrestling and track teams and served in the Mooseheart Battalion of the National Defense Cad et Corps. ALTL'RAS GARDEN CLUB The beautiful Veteran's Memo rial Building was the setting when Alturas Garden Club entertained the Klamath District No. 12 Fed eration of Garden Clubs on Wed nesday, May 1. The guests arrived at 9 o clock in the morning at w hich time Mrs. Warren Sloss and Mrs. Merville Archer were in charge of a coffee hour with Mrs. P. C. Weber, Mrs.j Josie Moffatt and Mrs. Jay No viack assisting at the table. Registration was in charge of I Mrs. Robert Schluter and Mrs. Phil Price. The business session was con ducted by Mrs. B. C. Johnson of Klamath Falls, district director. The Girl Scouts, sponsored by the Alturas Club, presented the flag salute and the invocation was giv en bv Mrs. C. W. Carsetens. Mrs. NEW! Reports were given by the vari ous project chairmen and the sev-j eral presidents in regard to the work of the past year. Two announcements of special interest were made. One that Klamath Falls will have the slate convention in 1964 and the other that some time in September the district will sponsor a flower show school. This will be a beginning cou.'se fur the training of flower show judges. Mrs. Chester Main, Tulelake, and Mrs. Scott McKen drec. Klamath Falls, will make the plans. Officers elected for the ensuing term were Mrs. E. C. Schweitzer, Tulelake. director; Mrs. Crystcl Cheyne. Klamath Falls, assistant director: Mrs. Lane Smith, secre tary, and Mrs. Clyde Hammond, treasurer. Both are of Klamath Falls. At noon a luncheon was served by women of Alturas Chapter of the Eastern Star. Covers were laid for 114 guests at beautifully dec orated tables. Each club accord ing to custom, brought favors, cor-j sages and arrangements. All were outstanding both from the view point of beauty and horticultural advancement. Since the program for the past year has been lilacs and blue birds, Eddingficlds' surprise was two huge baskets of lilac blooms shipped in for the occasion and brought in during the luncheon. The program following the lunch eon featured Phil Winkle of the forest service, who spoke on con servation. Last but not least was the recep tion at the new club house, "The Whistle Stop." Guests wero members of the Daughters of the American Rev olution, who were greeted at the door by Rebecca Pierson. incom ing president, and Peg Baldwin, secretary. An American revolutionary sol dier, loaned by Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Wales Jr., centered the serv ing table which was appointed with silver services. Presiding there were Sally Wales and Bet sey Baldwin. At the punch table were Keven Dehlinger and Me linda Whitney. Assisting about the rooms were Marilyn and Su san Whitney. Tea donations will be used to help defray expenses of the CAR state regional convention to be held in Portland June 22 and 23.
