HERALD AND NEWS, Klamath Falls. Ore. Friday, June 7, 1963 PAGE 5 B , 'e.T .v,-'?' "ci " gr- mvv EXTREMELY RARE VIEW This view of forbidden Tibet was taken from 29,028-foot Mt. Everest, highest point on earth, by Barry C. Bishop, National Geographic Society staff member and a member of the society's American Mt. Everest Expedition. Bishop and his climbinq partner. Luther S. Jerstad, of Eugene, reached the summit. Looking northwestward from Everest, the serpentine strip from the middle foreground to right background is the Rongbuk Glacier. UPI Telephoto se ishonesf Americans ge Losses FRENCH LICK, Ind. (UPII ilnd.. said Ihe most common ar Hotcls lose hundreds of thousands tide loft behind by a man is his of dollars annually because'elcctric shaver cord. Americans turn slightly dishonest and forgetful when checking out. The American Hotel Associa tion declined to give an estimate of total loss. But hotel executives report it "runs into a few mil lion" each year for the industry to replace stolen articles and for ward forgotten ones. Lifted items range from Gideon Bibles to desk pens. About the only thing a husband and wife never forget in the rush of packing: one another. Mrs. Hazel Mcintosh, house keeper at the Sheraton Hotel proup's branch in French Lick, Cosmetics and lotions, usually kept in the hotel bathroom medi cine chest, are left behind by many women. Both sexes are adept at forget ting sleeping garments. Slippers, pushed under beds, often are left behind by both sexes. Ditto for tooth brushes and medicines. What's the oddest item ever left behind? Mrs. Mcintosh nom inated a pair of false teeth she said were "in good condition." She stored them for three years, but the owner never asked for them. Hotel security plans include name-stamping on glasses, blan kets, sheets and the like, use of oversized pictures that won't fit into suitcases and bolts to anchor television sets. Tubes arc removed from tele vision sets. Radios disappear. So do blankets. Sterling silver lr dining rooms is a favorite target One New York hotel lost so many sterling demi-tasse spoons it finally switched to plastic spoons and urged guests to take them as souvenirs. As noted. Gideon Bibles still disappear. Even that doesn't de stroy Mrs. Mcintosh's basic be lief in the honesty of the human race. Ear Taftoo For Calves Suggested Members of the Oregon Live stock Advisory Committee have ecommended the tatooing of new born calves in the ear as a means of discouraging the theft of young calves. The committee, 'which serves an advisory capacity to the! Department of Agriculture, made this recommendation at an April 23 meeting in Salem. The committee also proposed that cattlemen with brands usci the brand for the tatoo. Because as many as six persons may use the same brand by having it in a different location on the ani mal the committee suggested that numbers from one to six be used with the taoo of the brand to indi cate the position of the brand on the animal. For those cattlemen without brands the committee recom mended the use of a design, num ber or initial as an identifying mark to assist livestock inspectors in identifying stolen calves. Other recommendations made1 at the meeting were: That the Department of Agricul ture redefine livestock running at large to mean cattle of different ownership grazing together or co-mingling in a particular area. That the list of recognized live stock beef breeds be enlarged to include the most prevalent beef breeds and that the department also permit inclusion of commu nity designation of additional beef breeds found in that particular community. (Hereford, Angus and Shorthorns are the breeds now listed in open range regulations.) And, that a study be made on the possibility of requiring brand inspection at auction yards, stock yards and slaughter points cattle moving into the state. Dale T. Crabfree District Attorney ant Attorney for Plaintiff Court House Klamath Falls, Oregon DON'T YOU READ BEFORE YOU BUY? Most people generally do. Not only do they read; they cut out and fhow ads to their family and friends; they dip coupons for information and samples. When people see an advertisement in prints they can compare design . . . features . , , and prices of nationally known products and services. (And people do compare be fore they go out and buy.) Advertising in print is a handy thing. You can check back; the message is still there even when your attention is distracted. When you add it up, print advertising the kind you read in this newspaper makes sense. And because it measures up to the buying habits of most consumers, print makes sales. Don't you read before you buy? I.ORKI, LA FLU, (iOSPKlJ HUini will hold Vacation Bible School Juno 10-21, each wwk day. All children, 4 to 15 years old. ire invited to attend.
