Thursday, June 6, 13 HtlD ANO HIWi, Klim.ll. Fan. On. PACE -A Robert Kennedy-Hoffa Feud Heads For Courts CHICAGO (UP! - Atty. Gen. Robert V. Kennedy has intensi fied his efforts to get a convic tion of Teamsters president James . Holla. A federal grand jury in Chica go indicted Hoffa and seven other persons Tuesday on charges alleging they fraudulently ob tained S20 million in loans from a Teamster pension fund and used more than $1 million of it for themselves. It was the seventh time since Kennedy and Hoffa first tangled while Kennedy was chief counsel for the Senate Rackets Commit tee that Hoffa has had court ac tions filed against him. The action Tuesday came after two years of investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Justice Department. It came in the form of a 28-count, 55-page indictment. Cases Combined As tlie indictment was handed down, a 16-count mail and wire fraud indictment against Hoffa was dismissed on motion of Ken nedy's department in Tampa, Fla. U.S. Dist. Judge Joseph P. Licb dismissed the indictment involv ing Hoffa's connections with a Florida real estate firm. Sun Val ley Inc., so the case could be cou pled with the Chicago prosecu tion. The Chicago indictment accused Hoffa of deceiving fellow trustees of the Central States, Southeast and Southwest Areas Pension Fund, headquartered in Chicago, to obtain loans for favored com panies in six states. Most of the companies are in the Miami, Fla., area. The indictment cited loans for financing of companies for con struction of hotels, motels, shop ping centers and other projects in Florida. Louisiana, Alabama, Mis souri, New Jersey and California. Says Money Diverted Pension fund trustees once were told, the grand jury said, that $2 million in loan funds was used to build a North Miami hospital whereas a "substantia! portion" of the money was diverted to other uses. The indictment said Hoffa used "fraud, deceit, misrepresentation" to obtain approval of the loans by the seven other union and eight management representatives who run the pension fund. Others named in the indictment were: Benjamin Dranow, 56. former owner of the John W. Thomas De partment Store, Minneapolis. Minn., now in prison for mail fraud and income tax evasion; Abe T. WeinWatt, S7, retired Mi ami Beach, Fla., businessman and former associate of Dranow; S. George Burris, 65, New York City accountant who was a stock holder in Sun Valley Inc.: his son. Herbert G. Burris. 41, New York City attorney; Samuel Human, 69. Miami Beach, a real estate oper ator who refurbished two large old Key West hotels; Calvin Ko- ens, 39, Miami Heacn builder who was convicted of a housing loan fraud last year; and Zach ary A. Strate Jr., 43, New Or leans builder and real estate man. ADA Will r i. if - T t 3 i Yes, offer 17 years in the Furniture Business in Klamath Falls, Ben Adair is retiring. BRANDSTADT, M.D. Written for Newspaper Enterprise Assn. Sex education can be destruc tive rather than constructive. It is not just a (ather-to-son or mother-to-daughter lecture, nor a pamphlet on coming of age pre sented with the approach of pu berty. It is not just an anatomy lesson, nor a discourse on the phsiology of reproduction. Primarily, sex education is the transmitting to a child of atti tudes regarding sex. If by word or deed you give your child the impression that sex is something dirty, he will go through life with an emotional scar that will pre vent his achievement of life's greatest joys happy marriage and parenthood. It is only the abuse of sex that Is dirty or that has grim conse quences. Proper sex education not only prevents a serious emotional handicap, it is also our most powerful weapon against vener eal disease. It is essential, there fore, that ail of a child's early questions about sex be answered simply, truthfully and without embarrassment. Unfortunate indeed is the par ent who finds it impossible to do this, for between such a parent and his or her child a lack of un derstanding will create an ever widening gap. The preschool child need not be given a long, technical an swer but should be told enough to satisfy his curiosity, and what he is told must be the truth. One mother, when asked by her 5-year-old son where he came from, told him. "Before vou were horn 1 carried you right under my heart." No more information was needed. The boy appeared to be well pleased with this thought and went outside to play. I think this mother handled the situation very well, and I have no fears that she w ill not add to this knowledge by bits and pieces gradually as lier son grows older. Sex education is a function that can best be shared by home. school, and church. But the atti tudes learned in the home out weigh all others. A parent who objects to the proper presenta tion of certain phases of this sub ject in the school his child attends may be obstructing not only the normal development of his own child, but that of his neighbor's children. If his own child has already re ceived his information, hearing it again in wholesome surround ings will not hurt him. If he has not already learned about sex at home he is going to learn about it willy-nilly. So anything that can ; be done to present the subject in a proper light can only be a force for good. The ideal solution, but one not likely to be achieved soon, is for all parents to be enlightened not only about the spiritual meaning of sex but also about how properly to present their knowledge to their children.
