The sheriff's department said the thieves first tried to enter the building by prying open a win dow, but when this failed thev were able to gain entry by "jim mying a rear storeroom door. Among the money stolen from the tavern safe were some old gold coins that the owner was collecting, and a number of papers and certificates that would have no value to the thieves. Police said tiiat cases of wine and beer were dumped on the floor and apparently the thieves used the empty cartons to put the whiskey in. The tavern was dusted for fin gerprints, but police did not sue ceed in finding any prints and it is assumed the thieves wore gloves. The authorities arc working on leads and apparently there are suspects in the case.
