Newspaper Page Texttf AGE 12 HKRAI.D AND k f ZJZZ-- BENEFIT BARBECUE Those attending the I Ith annual Memorial Day benefit barbe cue at the Bonanza Lost River Cemetery will be able to see the new caretaker's house which the proceeds have made possible. The five-room structure will be completed bv the day of the event. The barbecue was initiated 'to provide funds for the upkeep and improvements of the oldest cemetery in the county. Lost River Barbecue Ready BONANZA The 11th annual barbecue for the benefit of the Bonanza Lost Mivcr Cemetery will be held on Thursday, Memo rial Day. Serving will begin at 11 a.m. Ida Crimes, June Grimes, Adah Brown, all of Klamath Falls, and Elizabeth Sanders of Port land are donating the Hereford steer this year. They arc the daughters of early pioneers, B. S and Emma Crigsby, who moved to Klamath County in 1885 from Jacksonville, Ore. Ida Grimes will have lived in Klamath Falls for 78 years this August. The donation of the steer is a family affair. A grandson of the Grigsbys, Basil Brown, fattened the animal, and another grand son, Jim Moore of the Merrill Meat Packing Plant, dressed and aged it. The Grimes will also assist with the barbecue. The traditional benefit barbecue has drawn a larger crowd each year it has been held. Last year more than 600 were served. Proceeds are used for the up keep and improvement of' the cemetery, including a house for which will be completed by Me- Solon Sees Little Hope For Aid Bill WASHINGTON (UPI) Sen. Frank E. Moss, one of the Sen ale's staunchest supporters of fed eral aid to public schools, eon- ceded today that the proposal has little chance of passing Congress this year. He said this is because It has become "so emerscd in religious controversy" the issue of whclh er aid should be given to pa rochial as well as public schools. The Utah Democrat testified about the administration's cduca- tion proposals before a labor and public welfare subcommittee. He said that as an alternative to the administration plan, the time tested program of aid to federally "impacted" school' areas should be expanded throughout the na tion. "I stand as strongly as I ever rlid'on the principle of federal aid to "education" Moss said. "But 1 am wondering if those of us who believe we should do something now for America's school children might not be wise to examine other avenues through which we might give some measure of av sislance to our most hard-pressed educational institutions." Change In Management ALTURAS Clarence E. Par sons has been named the new manager of the Alturas branch of Bank of America to succeed John S. Walker, who has been appointed assistant vice president at the bank s ban I rancisco head office. The changes were announced recently by the Bank of America president, S. Clark Bcise. Parsons will take over his new office the first of June. He comes to Alturas after three years as manager of the Tulclake branch of the bank.' He has been with the bank since 1947, when he worked at the Susanville branch and later at the Quincy and Sali nas offices. He was promoted to assistant cashier in 1955 and assistant man ager at the Tulclake branch in 1959. The following year he was made manager there. While in Tulclake, Parsons was treasurer of the March of Dimes and the Salvation Army and sec retary of the Rotary Club. He and his wife, Ruth, and son and daughter will move to Alturas in June.
