OES Officer Is Honored MALIN' Prances Kalina. grand Adah of Eastern Star ws honored recently when 350 guests attended tile reception al the beautifully decorated Xlalin grade school gymnasium. "The Sword and Veil United." tne emblem o( Adah s station, was part of the decorations in the east. On each side of the stage .was a large potted white tree. .accented with small bouquets of ;oiue violets, the tlower of Adah's .station. Two thousand datfodils arranged with branches of cver , green completed the picture. The daffodils were donated to the chapter by Ben Knvpstra of Elkton. ; A dinner preceded the recep tion, arranged by the members of Prosperity Chapter and served by the Rainbow Assembly. Seaside, Elsie Oliotti, Portland, Ronald Uilson. Lebanon, and .Morris Boughner, .Medford. Frances Kalina was escorted. introduced and given a hearty cheer. All 18 grand officers, com ing from all parts of the state were present and introduce by Mrs. Kalina. A quadrille was presented by eight couples of the Square Dance Stars of Portland. An addendum was presented by the Southern Oregon Association w ith Ihe presentation of a gift and violet corsage by Ethel Twohy of Satellite Chapter, Brookings, who is grand representative to South Carolina. A delightful addendum was presented by Prosperity Chapter assisted by Malin Rain bow Assembly, depicting the many activities of Mrs. Kalina caring for her family of five; scouting, helping with her hus band' hardware business, PTA, worthy matron's year, mother ad viser of the Rainbow for Girls, bloodmobilc. and finally her sta tion as Grand Adah. This de gree ended ilh a flower garden made up of Rainbow Girls en closed with a white fence and a presentation by the worthy ad viser, pro tern, Loudean Lyon. Forence Jaeger, worthy grand matron, and Eldon Cone, worthy grand patron, spoke briefly. Mattie Hermann, spoke for the past grand matrons and Ronald Gilson for the past grand patrons. Helen Stankovich and Leorai White, Portland, spoke for the grand committee members nd Solma Smith. Portland, for t h e grand representatives. Vera Wil liams, worthy matron, Grcsham. introduced a group of worthy ma trons and Don Shores, worthy pa tron. Jacksonville, introduced the worthy patrons. Louis Kalina introduced the grand trailers at which time El len Sanders presented a humor ous skit. The grand trailers are the spouses of the grand officers and all but one were present. Mrs. Kalina expressed appreci ation to her chapter and to all who had given her honors. She introduced her husband and three sons, other relatives and a group of Adahs from Southern Oregon and Portland. After the Mizpah benediction, refreshments were served by the past matrons of Prosperity Chap ter. Wednesday, May 21, 1963 PAGE 3 A Founder's Day Is Observed The observance of Founder's Day highlighted the luncheon meeting of Alpha Lambda Chap ter of Delta Kappa Gamma teachers' honorary, held in the Blue Room of the Winema Hotel Saturday, May 11. In an impressive candlelight ing ceremony, tribute was paid the 12 original founders of Delta Kappa Gamma. Following a brief history of achievement for each. lighted tapers were placed in can- dleholders surrounding a glowing red candle and red rose center piece. In charge of the ceremony and serving as narrator was Nell Stewart. Reports of the state convention held in Salem May 4 and 5 were given by those in attendance. Representing Alpha Lambda Chapter were Dolly Bunch, Goldic Peterson, wilma Marvin, Anne Overman, Jcannette Jackson, Lela Thurman, Idamary KurU and Anne Dolezal. The theme 'for this year s convention was "Build Bridges. Rather Than Walls Members reported many dynam ic and inspirational speakers. In a special election, Nell Stew art was elected second vice pies ident and Elsie Mock, treasurer, to replace resigning officers. State President Alice Otis is to be in Klamath Falls July 20 and plans to meet with members of the two local chapters. Goldie Peterson, parliamentar ian, presented gifts of emblematic notes to Dorothy Green, Anne Ov erman and Helen Roper. Dorothy Green tendered her resignation as president to take a leave of absence from teaching. Anne Ov erman, treasurer, will be leaving to study for her master's degree at Oregon State University and Helen Roper will soon leave to make her home in Medford. Tables were atrractively dec orated with red rose and gold topiary trees, scattered red roses and gold musical notes.
