Lassie's
Delights
HOLLYWOOD lUPli - June
Lockharl is delighted that many
televiewers know as "Lassie's
mother," a sobriquet many anoth
er actress might find unamusing.
Furthermore, June says she is
really Laddie's mother. Laddie is
a "mostly fox terrier," whu
romps around her two-story Elizabethan-English
style heme in
fashionable Brentwood.
Though she plays the rather col
orless role of Ruth Martin on the
"Lassie" scries, June is a very
hip and youthful matron of 37 off

June is a second generation star.
Her father. Gene Lockhart, was a
famed character actor on the
screen during the 30s and 4ns.
Despite her background of the
ater and movies, June's acting
ambitions are limited to her se
ries and occasional guest shots.
Works Part-time
She would not appear in the
"Lassie" show if it were a full
time job. Two or three days of
the week are devoted to her role,
the rest of the time to her youngs
ters and husband.
"I participate a lot in John's
work," she says. "I make all his
travel reservations and pack his
suitcases. And I'm in charge of

ceremonies of his new projects.

That's what parents often say
when told about the decline in
our children's physical fitness.
. To be sure, parents can't as
sums full responsibility for this
problem. But parents should
I see to it that their children get
; proper health care and that
physical fitness isn't neglected
in schools.
Urge your local school officials
to provide s physical education
program that calls for at least
15 minutes of vigorous activity
every day for all girls and boys.
A basic program has been de
veloped that is improving the
fitness of our children. It is easy
to administer In any school. It
costs little to gat it started. It
can Improve any child's physi
cal fitness.
If you'd like to know more
about this program, write to The
President's Council on Physical
Fitness, Washington 25, D. C.
