Art Exhibit On Display At Library The annual International School Art Exhibit is now on display in the foyer of the county library building, 126 South Third Street. Paintings from high school stu dents in 12 foreign countries and an equal number horn high schools in the United Mates are included. . The International School art program is jointly sponsored by the National Art Education Asso ciation and the American Red Cross. Each year art students in high schools are invited lo submit art work which they wish to con tribute to the program to promote international understand ing through art. Since the program's inception in 1947 over 75.000 paintings have been accepted as contributions from American students lo 48 Red Cross sociclics throughout the world. Approximately 15.0110 paint ings have been received in re- turrffrom these societies and have lccn distributed among the high schools in the United States. From 4.000 to 7.000 slli(lls par ticipate in the program each year. Eight hundred and sixty five pic tures were contributed from Pa cific Area high schools in lwa including art work from students at Fremont Junior High, Klam ath Union High School and Sa crcd Heart Academy. The oflice of educational rela tions of the lied Cross emphasizes that work need not be a painting done specifically tor this pro gram; paintings that reflect the personal expression of the young artists, maintaining a high level of ait quality, make a suitable contribution to the Uiternation.il School art program. Underlying this emphasis is Iho assumption that the sincere, honest art of a fci nMf requires personal involve. mont and the expression ot expen ence. Art contribution by two Klam ath Union High School students were outstanding among the hundreds of pictures contributed in I!W2. Jean Sterrett's "City" and Tom Gross's "Swamp House" were selected to be included in a group of 37 pictures to be repre sentative of the highest quality of personal and artistic communion lion between students of this country and other countries. Estimated 40,000 In 1963 Cancer of the colon and rectum will take some 40,000 lives in 13, if present rales continue. This, despite the. fact that most patients with the disease could be saved, according to Mrs. John Dickinson, publicity chairman of the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. Today, according to the Amer ican Cancer Society, some three iuI of four patients with cancer of the colon and rectum could be saved if the disease is detected when it is localized, and before it has infected other parts of the iody. The proposal brings retail in stallment buying under regula tions similar lo Oregon's present auto sales law. It requires that the dollar amount of interest and service charges lie listed on the sales contract, and allows the buycito prepay tnc naiance and get a par tial refund of the service charge. Sen. Don Willner, I) Portland, introduced the original "truth in lending' proposal which required a declaration of the rate of inter est being charged. Willner's bill was drastically amended by the Senate Financial Affairs Committee, and the newly- enacted Washington stale law was ubstituted. He was a native of Ashland, born April 5. 1881. the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace T. Baldwin. His parents came to Linkville in the spring of 1884 and settled in a home at Kourth and Main streets, location of th present Stevens Hotel. His father was a harness maker. Mr. Baldwin, a nephew of (icorgc Baldwin, who htull the Baldwin Hotel, had been a mem ber of Klamath Kails lxxlte. No. 1247, BI'OK. He left Klamath Kails around 1918 for Nevada and spent the rest of his lile in the mining trade, prospecting at lloldfield, Lovelock, liurlaih and Winne miicca. He became an authority as a geologist and conferences were sought with him by Olivers in au thority In his field.
