Simpson, picked up Thursday in connection with the roadside slaying of Balti more civil rights crusader Wil- iam L. Moore, 35. A third person, a man. also was questioned but police did not reveal his identity. The Lirce arrived at the county courthouse shortly before noon and were quickly ushered into in ner offices where they conferred with officials for about 45 minutes. Deputy Sheriff Tony Reynolds later confirmed that the woman was Floyd Simpson's wife, and one of the men was Simpson's brother, Morris. Reynolds said he did not know the identity of the third man. Simpson, 40, father of six chil dren, was taken into custody aft er authorities learned he had talked with Moore just a few hours before Moore's body was found alongside a desolate stretch of U.S. 11 near here Tuesday night. Moore displaying integration signs, was walking from Chatta nooga, Tenn., to Jackson Miss., during his vacation to "peacefully protest segregation in the South. Lotches is in satisfactory con dition at Klamath Valley Hospi tal, according to hospital reports Friday. Mrs. Lotches fired three shots at her husband with her .25 cali ber pistol while he was sitting at table talking to the foster woman, one tola police snc doesn't remember firing the shots. The gun was grabbed away from her by William R. Gilroy. Anchor Hotel, after it jammed after the third shot. Gilroy had been with .Mr. and Mrs. Lotches in the restaurant that evening. Miss Foster had joined the trio shortly before the shooting. Lotches, a rodeo circuit rider, was hit once in the upper abdo men and once in the forearm. Miss Foster previously told po lice, in her excitement after the shooting, that she was the tar get of the assault and that Lotches jumped in the path of the bullets to protect her. She is Lotches' ex-wife. Mrs. Lotches, however, told police she was on very friendly terms with Miss Foster anil never intended to harm her. "T" indicates trailer site and "C" means camping site. The contract for construc tion of the facilities wes let Thursday by the commission to Klamath Plumbing and Heating Company for $1 16,162. The facilities are to be ready for use by early summer. Z. ilc Carter, veteran Southern Pacilic railroad man, died April 25 in the Southern Pa cific Hospital in San Francisco. He had been ill for many years. He was 61. He was employed here in the oil ice of the district passenger and freight agent. . Mr. Carter was born in Dead- wood. Calif- Nov. 27. 1901. the son of early California parents. Ida and Melton Carter, still liv ing in Redding. He started work for live S.P. in 1918. came to Klamath Falls in lira and served for a lime as district freight and passenger agent in Salinas. Marysville and Sacramento. He lived in Klamath Falls for 42 years and retired in 19K2. He was married June 6, 1932. to Ann Gradinger of this city. Mrs. Carter is a teacher in Peli can Citv Klementary School. Mr. Carter was a member of the Marysville Rotary Club and the Klamath Retrievers Club. Survivors include the widow. Funeral services will be an The body of Mrs. Biss had a bullet wound through its head when it was discovered in the rear scat of an automobile parked outside of the Biss Bcatty home, late Monday night. While deputies were resuming the search they started Thursday, Archibald Lmil Foster, 26, of Sa lem, was to appear in district court to answer first degree mur der charges involving the slaying of the Bcatty woman. Foster appeared in district court Thursday but the matter was deferred until today to per mit tlie defendant time to acquire legal counsel. The arrest of Foster by a depu ty and state police ofllccr Wedt nesday afternoon marked the sixth time that a person had been charged with first degree murder in Klamath County since last May.
