Auerbach and retiring Cousy were agreed after the game that they wanted the "best team" to win in the West. "We have no preference," Cousy said. "Win or lose, we want it to be the best team." Victorin Going To Masters Tournament In Buffalo, N.Y. Bob Victorin, a well-known fig ure in bowling around this area, leaves for Buffalo, N.Y., this week and the Masters Tournament. Victorin gained the Masters Tournament by virtue of his All- Events title in the State Tourna ment to earn the trip. The Mas ters is an individual Match game event open to all ABC mem bers. A qualifying round is held to determine a minimum of 48 positions for the final field of 64 stars. The qualifying competition is limited to 480 entrants includ ing state All-Events winners from every state. The state representa tives compete among themselves to determine eight men to qualify for the finals. All others are chos en (including state .representa tives) via total scores in the qualifying. Each finalist bowls four game matches with tola! pins deciding the winner. It is a double elimina tion affair with each player going into the losers bracket after one defeat and being eliminated with the second loss. In this manner the champion is chosen from the winner of the losers bracket (who lias only one defeat) and the one undefeated bowler. Should the los ers bracket winner defeat the un defeated bowler in the first match, a second match is bowled since each would have one loss. It the winners bracket contest ant captures the first match, how ever, lie Is the champion since the opponent would have two loss es and would therefore be elimin ated. Fust place in the competition pays $4,000; second, $3,000, down to $650 for eighth place. There are other special monetary awards for each match won, for highest series, highest qualifying score, etc. The total prize fund is estimated at $24,400. Victorin will be Klamath Falls' second representative to a Na tional Tournament this year. The veteran Bailey, one-time standout catcher of the National League while with the Cincinnati Reds but now relegated to the second-string job, pinch-hit grand slam home run Wednesday night in pacing the Giants to a 7 triumph over the Houston Colts. The 26-year-old Dalrymple, starting his third year as a regu lar backstop, capped an eight-run outburst in the seventh inning with a two-run homer to give the Philadelphia Phillies a 10-7 vie tory over the Reds. Sandy Koufax, pitching his first complete game since last July, held the Chicago Cubs to five hits a 2-1 triumph for the Los An geles Dodgers; Ray Washburn of the St. Louis Cardinals blanked the New York Mets, 4-0, and Donn Clendenon's homer led the Pittsburgh Pirates over the Mil waukee Braves, 3-2, in other games. Houston led 7-4 going into the eighth inning, but reliever Don McMahon filled the bases and Bailey blasted his pitch 390-feet over the right field wall.
