New Bedspread
Perks Up Room
Bv KAY SHERWOOD
Springtime changes aimed at
freshening a bedroom's appear
ance often start with the bed,
which by its sice dominates the
room. When the drab look of mv
bedroom nagged me, I realized
that the bedspreads were old.
faded and too skimpy.
Before shopping for n e w
spreads, I enjoyed a visit with
Robert Sherwood ino kin', head
of the design studios of a major
bedspread manufacturer (Morgan-
Jones. His timely advice is to
use some sense in selecting a
bedspread suited to the type of
bed and decorating scheme.
For example, a mattress on
box springs usually indicales floor
space is at a premium. In this
case, says Sherwood, the simple,
uncluttered line of a tailored
spread creates the illusion ol
space.

FRENCH HAD A WORD FOR IT
i lie word trousseau comes
from the French word "trusse,'
or little bundle, when, in for
mer times, a girl married, she
carried with her a "little bundle
of her personal possessions. While
the formal trousseau is no longer
an essential part of the wedding
many parents of engaged girls
still follow the age-old custom of
giving sterling silver flatware as
a wedding gift.
