Following the flag ceremony by Den No. 1 and grace led by Bill Gasser, pack committee chair man, the dinner was enjoyed by over 80 parents and friends. The program, consisting ot a puppet show, entitled "Little Black Sambo," was presonted by Den No. 1, led by Mrs. Lawson Kan dra. Mrs. Alfred Carlcton donated the puppets. Awards were pre sented by John Mathis, achieve ment supervisor, alter the enter tainment. - First rank, wolf awards, went to Larry Nicholson, Tony Carl son, Mike O'Kccte, Dennis Hick cy, John Worch, and Dan Hoff man, Den No. 2, led by Mrs. Bill Nicholson. The same awards were presented to Den No. 3 mem bers, Jimmy Jacob, Jerry Mo Koen, Richard Hayes, Richard Kerns, Rodney Beid, Jimmy Ly man, and Dan Chin, led by Mrs. Clifford Mt-Koen. Second rank, bear awards, were received by Mrs. Bill Gasser's cubs in Den No. 4 and Den No. 5. They were Martin Chin. Bobby Gasser, Dennis Hammond, Jim my McKocn, John Martin and Dale Rippy. A boljcal award was earned by Dan Chin, and gold arrows were ejrned by Martin Chin, Jimmy Jacob and Jerry McKocn. Silver stars were awarded to Matt Schuck, Bobby Gasser, Den nis Hammond, Jimmy McKocn John Martin, and Martin Chin, Den No. 4; and Andy Hickey Christ Ratliff. Jim O'Connor, Jolin Walker, Dan Mathis, Jerry Story, Stove Kandra, Bevin Ea gle, and Chct Bowlsby, Den No. 1 Membership cards were also presented and it was announced that the next pack meeting win be held April 24. Plans Talked For Alcatraz WASHINGTON (UPD-A House judiciary subcommittee today hoard a request that a five-man federal commission be set up to decide what to do with Alcatraz Island. The committee heard testimony In support of a bill by Rep. John F. Shelley, D-Calif., to establish the commission to study wide ranging recommendations for hi lure use of the site of the aban doned federal prison in San Fran Cisco Bay. A spokesman for the committee said "teclinical details" of the legislation still hud to be worked out and that action on the bill probably would not come until next week. Committee members learned fliat suggestions for future uses of Alcatraz ranged from turning "The Rock" into a refuge (or sea, gulls to keeping it as a museum, complete with waxwork figures of some of the prison s more notori' ous inmates. Shelley, who has announced that he will run for mayor of San Francisco, recommended that a statue of St. Francis or one sym bolizing East-West friendship be erected on the island. Frat 'Joke' Backfires SALEM UPU - They were kiddin' at the University of Ore gon, but the joke backfired in the Senate during ceremonies honor ing Oregon State athlete Terry Baker Tuesday. The Oregon Dally Emerald's April Fool edition carried the headline "All UO Frals To Be Closed." ' Sen. Waller Pearson, D Port land, apparently didn't think it was very funny. He churged the newspaper had taken advantage ot the traditional April 1 edition to ridicule legislators. Ho said in apparently angry tones regarding the closing of fraternities: "1 know that this is their aim." He termed the Issue of the Em erald an example of the type of pressure being put on the legisla ture by the State Board ot Higher Education. 'I think we should make it known Uiat we don't want the fraternities closed," Pearson said. He said It was unsound to talk about closing fraternities while higher education was asking the legislature (or money lor more student housing.
