DeMerritt, Mrs. Jim Bunnell. Mrs. Francis Kolkow, Mrs. G. C. Blohm, and Mrs. Clark I'nruh. and five organiza tion representatives, Mrs. Marion Kirkpatrick, Mrs. Harold Knis kern, Mrs. Francis Street, Mrs. Ies Unruh, and Mrs. Paul Mc Cullcy. It was reported that s i x books had been placed in the li brary in memory of A. L. Schmidt. These ate ''Woman Doctor of the West;" "Gift from the Sea;" "Grandma Goes to the Arctic;" "Captain Jack. Modoc Renegade;" "This Was Saw Mill ing;" and "Flight of the Arctic Turn." Other book donations in elude several volumes from the Valerie Sauerberg collection. The summer reading program was discussed, and it will again be held with Mrs. Clark Unruh in charge. "Around the Turn of the Con tury" was the theme chosen for the April 27 open house. Ar rangements will be made by a committee composed of Mrs. Jim Bunnell, chairman, Mrs. Art Ev ans. and Mrs. G. C. Blohm. Mrs Charles Dobry and Mrs. Lloyd Mock will assist. Regular library hours are Tues day, Thursday, and Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m., and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday through the school months. Ritual Held By Grangers Colorful costumes were in or der March 29 when the third and fourth degrees of grange rit ual work were conferred on 19 candidates in the Midland Grange Hall. The Shasta View Grange drill team presented the third de gree, and the Midland Grange drill team presented the fourth degree. The candidates represented Lost River Grange No. 846, .Merrill Grange No. 707, Midland Grange No. 781, and Shasta View Grange No. 830. Master Bert Mitchell. Shasta View, opened the meeting and introduced the honored guests for the evening. They were Master and Mrs. Leland Svarverud, ftiv erdale Grange No. 731, Doug las County; Mrs. Mildred Lar gent, Klamath County deputy; Bonifay Yancey, Pomona mas ter, and masters of Klamath County subordinate granges. Lou is Stork, Midland; Lincoln Gabri el, Lost River, and Ed Wenz, Poe Valley. A social evening followed the degree work with the Shasta View and Midland granges as. hosts. Lanes Hold Cancer Bowl "Bowl Down Cancer," the spe cial event benefit for the Amer ican Cancer Society is underway in the bowling lanes throughout the state and will close Sunday, April 7. it was announced today by Joe Tumulty, Klamath County chairman. This event is sponsored by the Bowling Proprietors Association of Oregon and the American Can cer Society, and is approved by the American Bowling Congress and the Woman's International Bowling Congress. "A tremendous tournament has been planned," Tumulty stated, "with big prizes to be offered on a state-wide basis. Over 130 prizes have been donated, includ ing a 19S3 Chevrolet Corvair four door sedan, a 13-foot Sea Swirl deluxe boat. Frigidaire portable automatic dishwasher, Westing house electric range. Motorola portable TV set. a week for two at the Park Haviland Hole! in Portland, and a 16" winner's tro phy." The entry fee is only SO cents per game 100 per cent of which will go directly to the society to help further its program to con quer the disease which touches one out of four families.
