Newspaper Page TextHERALD AND Fort PTA Slab Rock Okays Cost FORT ROCK Parent-Teacher Association members voted at tlieir meeting Friday, March 29, to share with the Fort Hook School District the cost of provid ing a 45 x 53 loot concrete slab at Fort Rock School (or a vari ety nf recreational uses. Jess Miles heads the committee, and Edwin Cater was appointed to work with him on arrangements and with Dufly Knorr regarding lie concrete work. Members pledged volunteer labor and equip ment as needed. ' The group voted to sponsor the community Brownie-Cirl Scout program. Mrs. Louis Chancy, as sisted by Mrs. Richard Brown is leader of the newly formed Brownie group of 12 girls. Their pins were awarded at the PTA session. Adults in the community ex "pressed Interest in the service of Central Oregon College m provid ing "continuing education" cours- 'ei by next fall. Voters endorsed .inclusion in the Central Oregon College district 100 per cent at the time boundaries were set. May 31 was announced as the final day of the current school year. The annual Lake County mu sic festival and play day will be held at Paisley on May 17. Square dancing by primary pu pils and musical numbers sung by Mrs. Ralph McAllister, with Bud Parks accompanist, pro vided program variety. Meet Held By Patrons BONANZA The Bonanza Par ents and Patrons Club met in the school auditorium March 27 with the president, Maxine Brown, conducting the brief meet ing. Phyllis Ueid reported $949.95 was netted from the Sweetheart Dance, but that outstanding bills had not yet been paid. Co-chairmen of the affair, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Yancey, were named chairmen of next year's dance. In other business, members voted to donate $150 to the junior- senior banquet, and it was announced that officers will be installed at the April 24 meeting. Following the business . session, Bob Freirieh demonstrated rend ing machines. Entertainment was provided by members of the jun ior and senior classes, who gave speeches they had presented at the recent swech festival. rtefreshments were served by the 411 conking clubs, Alice Drew's of Bonanza and Virginia Kent and Beverley Yancey's of Langcll Valley. Traffic Death Autopsy Slated PORTLAND (UPD-An autopsy will he held to determine what caused the death of Richard Bech told, Portland, who was injured in a traffic accient at St. Helens Thursday. Rechtold died at his home Sun day morning after being hospital ized only briefly at St. Helens fol lowing Hie accident. St. Helens Police Chief Glenn Pay said Bechlold's head hit the windshield in the crash, leaving a large cut on his forehead. Ray sain the Portland man was re leased from the St. Helens hospi tal a few hours later at his own request and against the recom mendation of a doctor. Oregon News Writer Dies PORTLAND tXJVV - Phyllis Lauritz, Ktaff writer and travel editor of The Oroponian, died at St. Vincent's Hospital Tuesday. She entered the hospital Mon day shortly after her return from a trip to the British West Indies. Death was attributed to a mas sive hemorrhage. '"Mrs. Lauritz, the wife of Nor man Lam Hz, had worked for The Oregonian since 1937 when she "joined the newspaper as a library assistant. She later served as sec retary to Managing Editor Robert Notson before becoming a writer.
