Waiting In Fashion
Lifted waistlines, easy tunic
tops, sweater-like pullover jackets
and relaxed shift lines are spring
newsmakers that can, and do,
adapt themselves to maternity
fashion thinking.
With increasing emphasis on the
suit and the costume look, mater
nity suits are favored not only
for their virtues of comfort and
concealment but for fashion im
portance, too.
Suit skirts expand in a num
ber of ingenious ways, and many
jackets have the added advan
tage of shape-retaining foam linings.

Strap Style
Steps Ahead
Leathers are light, colors are
gay and styling airy, in girls
dress, school and play shoes for
spring.
Stepping out at the head of the
fashion parade are strap pumps,
reports Shoe Fashion Service of
Leather Industries of America
The simple T-strap and the broad
sabot strap are favorites. Swivel
and removable straps play a less
er role.
Girls can be ankle-deep in strap
fashions in grained and smooth
leather school shoes, in brushed
and glove leather casuals and
in polished and patent leather
dress shoes.
The trend to lightness has in
creased the popularity of brushed
leather flats, ties and boot shoes.
Brushed leather is a sueded fin
ish on split leather, which has
lightness, with no loss in durabil
ity. Split leather is strong enough
to be used as a sole in some
casual or play shoes for young
sters.
In both casual and school shoes.

to achieve it than ruffing or back
combing. It's called feathering,
and it is achieved with a small
cylindrical brush with firm but
gentle bristles. Feathering builds
high-rising hairdos on softness,
not snarls, and it's easy on the
hair. One of these new feathering
brushes now comes with one well-
known self-styling hair spray. This
talented twosome makes hairstyl
ing easy.
Here's how to feather. First,
hold up a lock of hair. Then
stroke little tufts of it away with
the feathering brush. Let the
small strands drift down lightly.
Now. spray the featnered strands,
holding the containei about sev
en inches away from the head so
that only a fine mist dampens
the hair. Feather and spray,
feather and spray, until you
have built height or fullness
where you want it. Now, smooth
over the top w ith a brush, shap
ing the hairdo into line.
