The Allied Arts and Sciences :;-i.Division at Oregon Tech has no Jn major curriculum of its own, but J acts as a service division to the v; various curricula of the school. 1( teaches the mathematics, physl- .;tal sciences, English, general '. business, and humanities require- : ments of these areas. . ' In 1953, the Department of Al lied and Elective Subjects was formed within the School of In dustrial Education. At this time there were four instructors offer ing eight different courses. ' f-; This report states that both ; math and physical sciences should . be taught at college level in courses separate from the techni cal area and so arranged that tlie principles bo taught prior to the time they are needed in the technical courses. The Allied Divi . sion meets the requirements sot in this reixirt by offering a full academic year of physical s c I ences and the necessary math. Non-tcchni cal studies dealing with supervi sion, human relations, industrial iIM'WWlilMu II organization, psychology, and ceo- nomics are recommended by the committee. These courses are taught by the Allied Division and are available to all students on an elective or required basis. Since last fall, a research proj ect has been undertaken to evalu ate the Allied Arts and Sciences! Division. The various recruiting teams from industry that visit the Oregon Tech campus have been asked how valuable are the cours es taught by the Allied Division in the placement and advance ment of the Oregon Tech gradu ates in industry. They report that the more math and science a student takes, the better are his chances. Very few people in industry can write bullc- Billy Graham Said Improving HONOLULU (UPD-Evangelist Billy Graham was reported "in satisfactory condition and coming along fine" today in his battle against an acute gastro-intcstinal infection. Graham came to Hawaii to re cuperate iiom lung ailments that have bothered him for the past five years. Early last week he reported that he felt fit and ready for his Asian mission that is due to open in Manila in nine days, but on Thursday morning, he felt ill and checked into the hospital for tests. Naval Engisn Georges Buscia, 28, and eight other men were rounded up last Friday after a raid on a Paris apartment, po-; lice revealed Thursday night. Police said Buscia confessed he once was ordered by the Secret Army Organization (OAS) to kill Pompidou, head of President Char- tins, memos and reports so that others can understand what is written. "Concentrate on writing," they comment. "Since most peo ple lose their jobs because they can't get along with their fellow workers, it is necessary to stress human relations in college work," is another typical comment. The faculty is well prepared and versatile so that it can correlate the technical need ana uses ot the Allied courses with the students' major curricu lum.
