In those benighted days, there were few dissenters to that doctrine. But the world is chang ing. The modern theory seems to be that the bigger the deficit the greater the prosperity. Personally, I can't go along with that theory. It doesn't seem to make sense. But it is obvi ously popular. The election re turns seem to prove that. What's wrong with me? Am I ALONE in a world that has gone far beyond me? Doesn't ANYBODY believe in thrill any more? It's rough to be alnne in the world. I was getting low in my mind. But. just as I was about ready lo go nut and jump in the lake, the mail arrived. It brought me a letter bum Dan Crawford. o( Tulelnke. He and 1 apparently see things pretty much alike. Boyd Lcodom, a mem ber of the National Labor Rela tions Board in Washington, D.C., and president of the International Christian Leadership movement, was the principal speaker. Lee dom is also a former Supreme Court Justice ot Soucn Dakota. In a serious address punctu ated w ilh wry humor, Leedom told his rapt audienc that "the tre mendous power of God mat cre ated this universe can make i man in public life double even triple his effectiveness if he will accept Ihe teachings of Jesus Christ if he will only accept the claims Jesus Christ made for him." Leedom posed a challenge in leadership for those who heard him. "If you are to develop the true realm of the spirit, you must let this tremendous power of God permeate your spirit, lie said. Some ways to do this, he added, are: To accept some element of mystery it is not possible lo un derstand everything that pertains to God; you must get your intel lect out of tlie way you must be humble; you must accent the facl that God sent Jesus Christ into the world to set mankind back on Ihe proper path. The purpose of the Governor's Prayer Breakfast has been to fos ter an emphasis on the spiritual and moral altitudes of the state and to provide opportunity for the leadership of the state to re evaluate the individual and col lective aims in relationship to these principles. Five Miles Of Guardrail To Be Built Five miles of new guardrail will be constructed along The Dalles-California Highway (U.S. D7 south of Klamath Falls to lessen Ihe danger presented by canal which borders the high- wuy, it was announced By ror rest Cooper, stole highway engin eer. Cooper said the guardrail would he placed on the east side of the highway between the communi ties of Midland and Worden. It is between these two communi ties that accidents have resulted n motorists driving off the high way and into the canal. The new guardrail will be in stalled at a point starting approx imately four miles north of the California state line and will con tinue five miles north of that lo cation. It Is also contemplated to con struct an overlay on the pave ment to smooth and widen the traveled surface. A contract on this project will be awarded prior to the forthcom ing construction season. Cooper said. It will cost an estimated $130,000.
