The mortar has a hole in the bottom and may have been discarded by an ancient Indian for the same reason his modern day counterpart would throw away a broken dish. Ogle lives at 1515 Pacific Terrace. (See story). Skindiver Finds Morter Buried in Spring Creek salvage tales to recover timber lost in the Oct. 12 storm have been advertised by the Winema Na tional Forest. The sales will be hold Nov. 9 at 2 p m. in the county library building in Klam ath Kalis. Sale offerings include 2 million board feet of pine and fir located in the Lake of the Woods area, and approximately! 500,900 board feet of pine in the1 North Marsh area on the Che mult District. Norman Gould, timber staff of ficer, explained that five other sales are currently being planned in areas of blowdown concentra tions. The general areas and es timated volumes of these sales include: Wocus Bay 500.000 Edgewood Mountain 800,000; Fue- go Mountain 2 million: Sycan 300,000; and Modoc Point 200,000 board feet. Every effort will be made to place all possible salvage timber on the market as quickly as pos sible. Short 10-day advertisements will be used. Smaller scattered patches of blowdown will be sold! by the rangers as they are lo cated. All sales requiring adver tisement are hoped to bo made available within the next two or three weeks, Gould said. TU 2-SV27, A stone morlar that was found buried at tho bottom of Spring Creek by a Klamath Falls skin diver is ono of nine exhibits that were donated to the Klamath County Museum during Septem ber, Curator Mrs. Lloyd Seeley said Wednesday. The mortar, believed to have been used by ancient Indians of this area, was discovered by H. R. Thurman, Rte 3 Box 1086, in seven feet of water near Col lier Park. Thurman told Mrs. Seeley that he was swimming along the bot tom of the creek seeking lost fish ing lures when he observed the circular outline of a rock par tially buried In sand. Thurman uncovered the object and car ried it to the surface, where he lound it to be mortar. The aitilact is about nine inch es In length, six inches in diam cler, and has a hole in the bot tom. Two other prehistoric items were loaned to tho museum and include a collection of Indian ar-l row-heads belonging to Aubrey Bradford, 4022 Shasta Way, and an assortment of fossils found by tho donor, Don Peterson, Keno, while he was employed on the in stallallon of the recently com pleted California-Pacific Utilities Co. gas line. The fossils have since been sent to tlie University of Oregon to be identified. The arrowheads have been ar tistically arranged in a picture frame by Bradford's wife. Four other donations consist of household furnishings, books, dolls, and miscellaneous items, all in use here about the turn of' the century. One of Uie exhibits Is from! Mrs. Maude Hosley, 623 High Street, who contributed vari ous antiques used by her grand parents when they operated the first sawmill on Link River. In tile collection is a set of dishes which was brought here from England In 1872. Another exhibit is from Mrs, E. A. Kauble, 1517 Derby Street, who donated various householdl items and clothing in addition to newspapers (18M) of Aden, a community near Klamath Falls which has passed out of oxiV tence.
