Barrows golden-eye. the third extensive check on bird buffle-head, ruddy duck, common SEARS species to be made this year and covers the bird life present in the Klamath Basin during the height of the fall migration season. This is the largest number of species observed during the month of Oc tober during the past four years. In 1958 the tally was 128 spe cies; 1959 saw 102 species. 1960 produced a report of 120 species The species noted were eared grebe, western grebe, pied-billed grebe, white pelican, double-crested cormorant, great blue heron, common egret, snowy egret, black crowned night heron, whistling swan. Canada goose, lesser Can ada goose, cackling goose, white fronted goose, lesser snow goose, Ross's goose, mallard, gadwall, merganser. Turkey vulture. Cooper's hawk red-tailed hawk, Swainson's hawk rough-legged hawk, golden eagle aid eagle, marsh hawk, prairie falcon, pigeon hawk, sparrow hawk, sage hen, California quail. ring-necked pheasant, sandhill crane, Virginia rail, coot, semipal mated plover, killdeer, common snipe, greater yellow-legs, lesser' I yellow-legs, knot, dowitcher, west ern sandpiper, avocet, northern phalarope, California gull, ring billed gull, Forester's tern, black tern. Lewis's woodpeck- Grand Jury Gets Theft Case Involving 2 Youths Two Klamath Falls youths, both 18, have been bound over to the grand jury on charges of burglary not in a dwelling following district court preliminary hearings. Coe decided there In Smashup PORTLAND (AP) A teenage girl was seriously injured Tues day afternoon in a smashup on Portland's busy SW Barbur Blvd., involving two cars and a truck and trailer. The injured girl was Frances Stewart, 17, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Stewart, Portland. Police said she was a passenger in a car driven by Shannon Ho gan, 17, Portland. Miss Hogan's car, police said made a left turn at the intersec tion of SW 30th Ave. and Barbur and was hit by the truck, driven by Harold Miller, 20, Lebanon. The truck skidded out of con trol, knocked over a utility pole and pushed the Hogan car into a third vehicle parked at a service station, police said. MctcLctren Man Thwarts Escape SALEM (API A supervisor at MacLaren school for boys at Woodburn suffered slight head in juries Sunday when attacked in an unsuccessful escape attempt, the board of control said Tues day. It said the supervisor, Joseph Lebond, was attacked by four youths in one of the new 25-boy cottages. Lebold, the board said, was hit with a sock containing some small paint jars. He was able to get the boys back into bed before help arrived. was sufficient evidence to submit the cases involving Steve E. Tay lor, 2853 Front Street, and Sam uel A. Herrera, 3823 Crest Street, to the grand jury. Both youths are accused of breaking into the Moose Lodge. 1010 Pine Street, early on Oct. 27 and stealing some whiskey, candy and cigarettes, Taylor's preliminary hearing was Monday while Hcrrera's was Tuesday afternoon. Witnesses at both hearings included City Ju venile Officer Ray Howard, Moose official Ervin Carr and a 17-year- old youth. The youth testified that Taylor didn't enter the building. Carr said 50 bottles of whisky were stolen and Howard said that Herrera admitted stealing 13 bottles. A third youth. Terryll Stafford. also 18, faces the same charge. His preliminary hearing has been set for 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 30. Bail is set at $1,500 for each youth. Two juveniles involved in the al leged burglary were turned over to the county juvenile department In another district court matter Tuesday, a larceny charge against Gary R. Dahlstrom, 26, of 1726 Oregon Avenue, was dismissed af ter a preliminary hearing. Dahl strom had been accused of steal ing two beds and a daveno from Edward G. DeLyria, 2425 Sum mers Lane.
