Emil, a fireman ap prentice, is at the NAS Los Alamitos, Calif., where he is undergoing on-the-job traininq for seven months then to machinery repair school. Karl is currently serving with the Pacific fleet as a seaman aboard the U.S.S. Perry. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Emil J. Gran quist, 4517 Denver Avenue. Mo'rgon Still Undecided On Governorship Race WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal Power Commissioner Howard Morgan said Wednesday he still had not made up his mind about running next year for the Demo cratic nomination for governor of Oregon. He said the decision of Atty. Gen. Robert Y. Thornton to seek the nomination "doesn't change my previous statements at all." Morgan, who was appointed to the Power Commission earlier in the year, added, "My position re mains unchanged for the time being." Last week Morgan was quoted as saying he still was consider ing the "difficult decision' as to running for the nomination. He said then "The situation is not fully clear yet. I want to be sure I understand the situation before making up my mind. It would be the wrong thing to do and perhaps unfair to make up my mind too early. Tuesday a petition to encourage Morgan to run was announced in Portland. Sponsors said nearly 100 prominent Democats had signed it. Morgan is a former Oregon Democratic chairman, state legis lator and state public utility com missioner. GOP Plans To Capture Lady s Vote By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS The assistant chairman of the Republican National Committee called Wednesday for the GOP to go alter the women's vote in 1962. Mrs. Clare B. Williams, on the first day of a two-day tour of Ore gon, made the statement in a speech in Portland to the Federa tion of Republican Women. She said 58 per cent of the women voting im 1932 and 61 per cent of those who voted in 1956 favored Eisenhower for President. In 1960, when Richard M. Nix on, the Republican candidate lost. 51.5 per cent of the women voted for him. Mrs. Williams said. Mrs. Williams went to Eugene for a Republican dinner after her Portland speech. In a talk there, she said the GOP, as the loyal opposition, has the obligation to criticize the Kennedy Administra tion. "We have been patient and generous during this period of White House apprenticeship," she said, but now the days of trial and error, of indecision, should be over." She said the voters last Novem ber did not reject the principles of her party. "Thirty-four million Americans gave the Republican Party a clear mandate to represent their think ing on the issues which face our nation," she said. Man Pleads To Assault Sammie R. McKnight, 32-year-old Klamath Falls man, pleaded guilty in circuit court Tuesday af ter the charge against him was reduced from assault with intent to kill to assault and battery by the district attorney's office. McKnight's trial had been sched uled to start Wednesday in Judge David R. Vandenberg's circuit court. But, after investigating the case, Deputy District Attorney Sam McKeen decided to reduce the assault charge from its most serious degree down to a misde meanor. McKeen explained that he had "insufficient evidence to prove as sault with intent to kill or any lesser felonies." McKnight had been accused ol attempting to choke Mrs. Hood to death on July 30 at 1734 Lark Street. Judge Vandcnberg will sen tence McKnight Friday morning. Noted Artist Weds Teacher STOCKBR1DGE. Mass. IAP) Norman Rockwell, noted maga zine cover artist and illustrator, and Miss Maiy L. Punderson, a retired teacher, were married Wednesday in SL Paul's Episco pal Church. It was the third marriage for Rockwell, 67. His first marriage ended in divorce in 1930. His sec ond wife died two years ago.
