New Winfer Sporf Area
Planned At Mt. Ashland
A new major winter sports area
is being planned for the Pacific
Northwest.
The forest service has called for
applications and bids for the devel
opment and operation of a com
mercial winter sports enterprise at
Mt. Ashland, according to C. E.
Brown, forest supervisor. Rogue
River National Forest. Mt. Ash
land is in the Siskiyou Mountains,
eight miles south of Ashland.
Bids wilt be opened July 2, 12,
according to Brown. Plans for the
development of the Mt. Ashland
site call for construction of
lodge, ski shop, food and beverage
facilities, and utilities, as well as
ski lifts and tows. A term permit
will be issued to the successful
bidder for a period of 20 years,
with provision for renewal, for the
area upon which buildings, ski
lifts, and other structures are to
be built. An annual permit will 1 1
be issued for a larger area to in
clude the ski slopes and runs not
covered in the term permit.
A bid form and prospectus has
been distributed to each known in. I
terested bidder. Further informa
tion can be obtained from the For-1
est Supervisor, Rogue River Na
tional Forest, P.O. Box 512, Med-;
ford, Ore.
