Explosion Point By SHARON KAY RITCHIE Newspaper Enterprise Assn. The last step in the four-step approach is vital. William Wallace Lincoln, a son of Abraham Lincoln, died in the White House at the age of 12. Mm The two preceding steps are. in a sense, automatic. Here's what happens on the fourth step if ev erything is working: The left foot and right arm are synchronized. As the right arm descends in the pendulum, down ward and forward, the left foot begins to slide. The ball should be neither behind nor ahead of the bowler. At the end of the step comes the explosion point. This is the instant when the ball leaves the hand and the follow through begins. Mucn happens quickly. And it is all so important that many instructors begin their teaching of a student, who is not a beginner, by observ ing what he does here. Billy Wclu, a first team bowl ing Ail-American, gave me some fourth-step hints. The left foot should never leave the lane. The feet should be at right angles to the foul line. The shoulders should be parallel to the foul line, except when angling for a spare shot The bowler should be steady and well balanced. AT THE END of the step comes the explosion point. Michigan State over Notre Dame: For the second straight weekend Michigan State partici pates in one of the schedule's best games. Mississippi over Tulane: Mis sissippi doubled the score on the Greenies a year ago. Arkansas over Texas: Arkan sas' new attack will prevail over the Longhorns. Iowa over Wisconsin: The Hawkeyes have too much for Ron Miller's passing to overcome. Alabama over Tennessee: The Alabama defense is about as stingy as they come while Pat Trammell, the team's quarter back, is about as good as they come. Ohio State over Northwestern: Bob Ferguson gives the Buckeyes the edge. Colorado over Kansas State: The Buffaloes now are deter mined to go all the way. Georgia Tech over Auburn: You gotta stick with Stan Gann. Louisiana State over Kentucky: The Bayou Bengals get revenge for that surprising 3-0 setback of a year ago. Missouri over Iowa State: There just are not enough Iowa Staters to hold the horde of Missourians at bay. Syracuse over Penn State: The midweek hospital report says that all three of Syracuse's top three quarterbacks are battered and sore and that Ernie Da v i s is healthy. That's the decisive fact or. Michigan over Purdue: The Wolverines are smarting from that 28-0 lashing given them by Michigan State last weekend. Don't Look, But . . .
