f s Death
' WASHINGTON (UPD - The
Senate Inttmal Security subcom
mittee has suggested that U.N.
diplomat Povl Bang - Jensen's
death in 1959 may have been
murder instead of suicide as po
lice ruled.
, The Senate group said Monday
night that Bang-Jensen, assistant
secretary of the U.N. investiga
tion of the 1957 Hungarian Revolt,
may have bfen the victiirjf "po
litic murder" by Uf Soviet
"terror apparatus."
In a report on an inquiry hearkd
by Sen. Thomas J. Dodd, D-Conn.
the subcommittee said:
'There are too many solid ar
guments against suicide, too
many unanswered questiens.
too many serious reasons for sus
pecting Soviet motivation and the
possibility of Soviet implicat.cn.
About the most that can be
said on the basis of the informa
tion available today is that it is
still unclear whether it was sui
cide or murder.!'
Communist Party Here

WASHINGTON (UPD - An
other long round of legal wrang
line shaped up today in the gov

of Russia. '
The Supreme Court ushered in
the new round Monday when it
refused to reconsider its June S
decision that the party must register.

leaders said they would defy the
ruling. j . . .
The attorney general has said
he expects a long battle through
the courts lo obtain compliance
with the 1950 Internal Security
Act, which the Supreme Court up
held.- .
Party Mutt Register .
Under that law, the Communist
party must register with the Jus
tice Department within 30 days
after the courts mandate be
comes final. 1
The mandate is expected to be
come final about 10 days from
today.
If the party fails to register, It
faces, criminal prosecution and
fines of $10,000 a day for each
day it fails to register.
If the party defies the law, the
act orders registration of Individ

in the 10 succeeding days. If they
don t register they would be sub

years in jail.
Bankrupt Party
If neither this party nor its of

order becomes effective.
The practical result would be to

Justice Department officials
said the Communists have been
meeting with their attorneys daily

are expected to take every indi

Grand Jury
Given Case
One man was bound over to the
grand jury last Friday after a dis
trict court preliminary hearing1
and another man was released
when his hearing disclosed a lack
of evidence.
Gilbert R. Marshall, 30, of
Hoopa, Calif., was bound over to
the grand jury on a charge of
being an ex-convict in possession
of a firearm by District Judge
Hal ,F. Coe. Bail is set at $1,500,
Marshall was arrested Sept. 22
by city police, who said he had
a .22 caliber revolver stuck in his
belt. The arrest was made at Ole's
Tavern on Main Street. Marshall
admitted serving prison time on,
a larceny charge thue years ago.
An aggravated assault charge
against Fort E. Proctor, 54-year
old Newell man, was dismissed
when Judge Coe ruled that there'
was not enough evidence to pass
the case on to the grand jury.
Proctor, a- tractor driver, had
been accused of beating his wife
in a complaint signed by her.
Ocean Air
Tests Seen
SEATTLE (API - The United
States may conduct nuclear tests
in the atmosphere over the Pa
cific Ocean next year. Sen. Henry
M. Jackson, D-Wash.. said Mon
day.
Such tests might include the
firing of Nike-Zeus ' anti-missile
missiles against other missiles,
Jackson said.
We have weapons systems
which haven't been tested, includ
ing some components of the Nike
Zeus anti-missile," he said in an
interview., "And there Is a strong
possibility that the Soviet Union
also has developed an anti-missile
missile."
Jackson was also asked about
competition between government
and private shipyards for shipyard
work.
"The yard that can do the work
should get the job," he said. "The
Puget Sound Naval Shipyard at
Bremerton, for instance, will play
an important part in the repair
and maintenance of nuclear sub
marines because it is best
equipped for the job."
Security Measures Lax
The subcommittee also charged
that the United Nations' security
measures were "dangerously
lax."
Bang-Jensen, a Dane, was sus
pended from his U.N. post after
he refused to turn over a list of
Freedom Fighter witnesses wr-.o
had testified on condition that
their identities would not be dis
closed.
The witnesses feared Commu
nist officials at the United Na
tions would learn their identities
and order reprisals against then
relatives in Hungary.
On Thanksgiving morning, Nov.
26. 1959, Bang-Jensen was found
dead in Alley Pond Park, New
York. There was a bullet tnrougn
his head. His own gun was in
his hand and a suicide note,
which the New York police said
was In his handwriting, was found
in his wallet.
Sought Out Ike, Dulles
The subcommittee said Bang-
Jensen several times offered to
supply President Eisenhower or
A len W. Dulles, neaa ot tne uen
tral Intelligence Agency, with
data on Communist infiltration of
the U.N. high command and of
U.S. intelligence. .
The evidence never was pre
sented although, according to one
version of the subcommittee tes
timony, it involved the offer of
a group of Communists' to defect
to the United states.
The Senate report concluded
that there was "a lamentable ex
ample of procrastination and in
decision" in dealing witn Bang
Jensen's request that he be al
lowed to give data to top men
in U.S. intelligence.

Moronic Males
Can't Buy Suits
By ANN LANDERS i fascinated with her Aunt Maziei
Dear Ann Landers: I started and wants to visit her during
to work in a men's clothing Christmas vacation. Maiie is my
recently. It opened my wife's youngest sister. She has
been divorced twice and is now
living with a well-to-do gambbr
in Detroit. They live like mil
lionaires and I'm sure the glam
or would appeal to our daughter.
When Mazie was here she told
our daughter that marriage is
for suckers and smart girls live
with men until the shine wears
off, then they shove off fori
"greener pastures." Mazie drintts
like a fish and has served time
for forging checks.
I'm opposed to letting our
daughter make this trip but my
wife feels she should see all
sides of life. I need your help.
-TWO TO ONE
Dear Two To: No teen-ager
should visit in the home of an
unmarried couple. By sending her,
you condone Aunt Mazle's inde
cent design for living. Tell your
daughter she can't visit people
who have such shahby standards
of morality.
