(API PUtnl Pete BuUer will get his last wish today to be buried nn thp ranon where he rode as a top cowhan ior so many years. The wiry little Negro his real name was Will Butler but he was better known as Pistol Pete was struck by an automobile on U.S. 1 two miles south of Stuart early Saturday and died later in a West Palm Beach hospital. Nobody knew his real age, but rancher William J. Matheson es timates Pistol Pete was over 80. He was drafted in World War I but was discharged because he was over age, said Matheson. That was 44 years ago. Pistol Pete came from Texas,, where he acquired his love of horses and the life of a cowboy. "He was a good hand," said Matheson. "For the 20 years he rode herd on our cattle he was close to the family." Like most cow hands, Pistol Pete made a regular weekend sortie to the county seat. He would leave the ranch every Friday evening and come back early Saturday morning." Matheson said. "That's the only time he left the ranch. The Matheson family and the ranch hands are. giving Pistol Pete the kind of funeral any cow boy would want. The body will be brought to the ranch from a funer al home in Fort Pierce. It will lie in state in the Mathe son living room from 1 to 2 p.m Then six pallbearers three white and three Negro will take the body to the grave out in the pas ture, in the shade of a clump of pines, where Pistol Pete often said he wanted to be buried.
