We The Women
Beware When Women
Drivers Roam Suburbs
A reporter for a London news
paper spent three months follow-:
ing women drivers in order to
Ruth Milled
NcOspnper Enterprise Asqi.
stuov lemale driving harms and
came up with the verdict that they
are terrifying.
He must have been follow in
them arouOd suburban neighbor
hoods to have reached that conclusion.
Put a woman behind the.wheel
of a car on a highway or busy
city street and she.tends strictly
to her driving. If aoything, she is
a more carelul driver than a man.
But turn her loose in the sub
urbsand she seems to forget that
she is behind the wheel of a car.
She'll slam on the brakes to
crane her neck" to see if there
really is a For Sale sign on the
Jones' house or if the Smfths ac
tually are starting to work on turn
ing their carport into a playroom,
without even a glance at her rear
view mirror.
If she meets a friend driving in
the opposite direction the two will
pull close together and settle down
for a chat in the, middle of the
road.
If she goes to a big tea she'U
block anybody's driveway in or
der not have to walk any further
than necessary in her high-heeled
shoes.
If she is chauffcuring children
she will pay more attention to
what is going on in the back seat
than she does to the road ahead.
If you don't believe this, just
try following women drivers as
they0 wend their way through the
suburbs with their minds on any
thing find everything but the job
hand driving.
the same verdict as the London
reporter. Women's driving hallo's
.ire terrifying.
