Kandra. 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester L. Kandra, Star Route, Merrill, participated with other personnel from the 3rd Di vision's 33rd Armor in a six-ween field training exercise in Grafen wohr, Germany. The unit's phase of the training ended March 4. The exercise was designed to provide training under cold weath er conditions during oay ana night maneuvers. The Grafenwohr training area is the largest train ing site available to NATO lorces in Europe. The 3rd is one' of five U. S. divisions in NATO's "Pyra mid of Power." Specialist Kandra, a communi cations chief in the armor's Com pany A in Glenhausen, Germany, entered the Army in July, 1959, and arrived overseas the follow ing December. He received basic combat training at Fort Ord, Calif. A 1958 graduate of Malin High School, Kandra attended Oregon State College. Woman Feces Check Case Mrs. Otto Shepherd, 31, Route 3, Klamath Falls, was returned to Klamath Falls from Roseburg last Friday to face a charge of knowingly uttering and publishing a forged bank check. She was indicted by the grand jury in Jan uary but was subsequently re turned to Roseburg and sentenced to 75 days in jail, also on a check violation. Mrs. Shepherd is accused of passing some checks in Klamath Falls in December under the name Lola Alice Johnson. Robert Kerr was appointed as her at torney Monday morning in circuit court. A 46-year-old man was arraigned in district court Monday morning on a forgery charge. He was Don ald Chapel, 4014 Fawn Avenue. Chapel was arrested Saturday afternoon by sheriff's deputies aft er he allegedly attempted to pass two forged checks. Lone, for $28.50 he offered at Market Basket No. 1, Ninth and Pine streets, and the other, for $10, he tried to cash at Vein's Tavern, 122 South Sev enth Street. Fair Association Picks President LAKEVIEW - Alfred Wood was elected president of the " Lake County Fair Association to suc ceed John Richardson at the an. nual dinner meeting held Wednes day evening, March 15, at Van's in Lakeview. Darrell Leavitt was elerlwl vino president and Mrs. Henry Mc Cormick was reelected secretary Seventeen persons were present to -represent past presidents of the association, division heads, members of the countv court and others interested. Warren Maxwell of the fair board talked on the status of the two organizations. The next meeting was scheduled for April 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the office of Oris Rudd, extension agent. Plans will be discuSsed for the fall fair. LEGISLATURE ADJOURNED NASHVILLE Tcnn mpii Tk Tennessee legislature adjourned its 82nd session Friday after 75 days of meetings.
