March 11, voted to favor keeping a central post office at Vort Rock. There has been talk of requesting some plan of rural delivery during recent months. Action was taken due to the fire which wiped out postal headquarters there March 11. Rube Lone, agriculture commit tee chairman and member of the State Board of Agriculture, point ed out the severity of the de partment's budget cut urged by the Ways ana Means umrairae, mittee. Services would of necessity be curtailed, he feels, and should such a cut be enacted it would seem wise to repeal certain sei-v ices in order to carry out part of the program in an adequate manner. This would be in lieu of spreading ou the budget to cover all phases of service less ade quately. The group decided to consider plans for a degree team to pre sent the third and fourth degrees during May or June with Mrs. Truman Kimsey, master, in charge. This will be part of the April business. Edwin Eskelin an nounced thnt the fifth degree will be given May 27 at the Pomona Grange in Valley Falls. MIDLAND GRANGE Elmer McClure. Oregon State grange master; Victor Croxton. state lecturer and deputy; Bona fay Yancey, state treasurer, and Mildred Largent, county deputy, were distinguished guests at. the Midland Grange mortgage burn ing ceremony March 9. Alex Cammock opened the meet ing and oilicers exemplified the opening drill. Francis Flowers gave a brief history of the grange. Mildred Largent reviewed present plans for the grange and Mayme Cam mock introduced all charter and 25-ycar members present. i State Master McClure, guest j speaker, complimented the mem bers for the extensive work that had been done to pay off the mortgage in such a short time. The builduv was dedicated March 9, 1957. The following officers took part in the mortgage burning cere mony; Elmer McClure, state mas- master; Opal Wareback, chaplain; Mildred Largent, county deputy; Verria Urbach and' Guy Galetti, lady assistant steward and assist ant steward, and all past mas ters. Pauline Flowers gave a read ing. Victor Croxton presented the lecturer with an achievement award for outstanding service. Decorations for the event were provided by Dorothy Pyle, Alice Hoover and Kathryne Smith. MIDLAND GRANGE' HEC Mrs. .leanette Walt from Klam ath Falls and Mrs. l.ouisa Schney iW nf Ine Island. N.Y.. were guests at the Midland Home Eco nomics Club March 7 polluck meeting. Leon Andricu showed samples of the new chairs that were pur- . cnasea. . Mary Grigsby joined the organ ization. Members were reminded of the sewing and crocneting coniesi. Grace Stork donated a quilt top In the club. CalliCj Gordon and Ann Skanderup were appointed to purchase and make new curtains for the grange hall dining room. A picture quiz was played, with Callie Gordon winning the prize. Florence told of his ex periences working as a butler and chff and showed us uniforms he had worn.
