He proposed raising the gasoline tax or the "in lieu" tax on auto mobiles to finance the project. ' Condemned Buildings Are Worry YREKA City and county offi cials are expressing concern over number of families living in structures in the area that have been condemned. ' The city has agreed to cooper ate with the, county in planning development of the old veterans housing project Into low rental units for indigents in the county receiving public assistance. County Welfare Director W. M. VanOver stated that about 13 families are believed to be living in condemned buildings in the Sugar Bowl area. Others, he said are believed to be living in homes that may soon be condemned. Some officials expressed belief that buildings in the veterans housinc area may he tno worn out to be worth maintaining.
