By Personnel Of Fighter Croup 408th Receives ADC's EXAGGERATED Golden Leaves, symbolizing the rank of major, were pinned on former captains William J. Hill, left, and Harold D. Reynolds, right, by Lt. Colonel Carl H. Leo, commander, 322nd Fighter Interceptor Squadron, center. Other officers at Kingsley Field to be promoted to major were Clark L. Aubel, William C. Tiernan and Edwin A. Valentine. Award Of Achievement Col. Rupert C. Welch, base commander, recently accepted, on behalf of the personnel assigned to the 408th Fighter Group, the Air Defense Command's "Certifi cate of Achievement" for partici pation in the civilian suggestion program. The ADC Award was presented to the 408th Fighter Group in rec ognition of excellent participation in the Civilian Suggestion Pro gram for the year 1960. The citation accompanying the award stated: "Such recognition reflects great credit upon the 408th Fighter Group, since the certificate is awarded to only those installations which meet or exceed the Air Force participa tion rate standard." Colonel Welch expressed his appreciation for the great inter est shown by the civilian em ployes whose ideas contributed so much to improve operations. He extended his congratulations to all personnel whose participation in the program made the award possible. Commendation Medal To Kingsley Field NCO The Air Force Commendation Medal, presented (o an individual for outstanding achievement, was awarded to M.Sgt. Jean P. Spurn ler for meritorious service in the line of duty during an overseas tour in Germany. Sergeant Spinnler was cited for, his outstanding accomplish ments in establishing the newly organized Officer and Training Classification Branch, which en abled his section to complete its mission in a most efficient man ner. .'.' Competition will be held in the downhill slalom event, giant sla lom and a novelty cross-country. Three awards villi be made in each event in addition to a Ski meisler trophy. REPRESENTS GOVERNMENT The solicitor - general, second ranking officer of the U.S. De partment of Justice, represents the federal government in cases before the Supreme Court. This action, during the ser geant's last overseas tour at Lind- isey Station, Germany, was per formed during the period of No vember, 1957, until August of 1960. Upon completion of his tour in ' Europe, he was reassigned to Kingsley Held as noncommis sioned officer-in-charge of the Of ficer Personnel Branch. Presentation of the coveted award was performed by the base commander, Col. Rupert C. Welch, during an informal cere mony held in his office. Wilson Is Named Airman Of Month At Local Base Airman l.C. Joseph E. Wilson of the 408th Materiel Squadron was recently named Kingsley Field's Airman of the Month dur ing informal ceremonies in the office of acting base commander Lt. Col. Carl H. Leo. Airman Wilson, recognized for his outstanding job performance, leadership, military bearing and appearance, was presented with a letter of commendation from Colonel Leo, on behalf of the 408th Fighter Group, with con gratulations for his achievements. In addition to the letter of com mendation, Airman Wilson was awarded a three-day pass, a check lor $25, and 10 gallons of gaso line aonaieo oy sam s toiner near Falcon Heights. Wilson arrived at Kingsley Field from an overseas lour in Fiance during September of 1959, and lives with his wife, Diane, and their son, Gary, at 330 Mar tin Street in Klamath Falls.
